Purebreds Vs Cross Breeds Vs Mixies

I love poodle mixes and big ol' hairy Beardie, OES, or terrier mixes. But I despise the whole designer dog craze. It's insane. The breeders spread the most ignorant statements about the advantages of their dogs over purebreds, and they take advantage of the American thirst for the latest, greatest, newest, biggest, smallest, whatever - while the very same mixes they purposefully breed are available in shelters all over the US. Ditto, from someone who bought her first dog ever this year.  Others are from shelters or rehomes.  And, had I not wanted to own one stockdog type Aussie before I got too old, I wouldn't have done it this time. • Angelique Posted : 4/25/2007 12:10:59 PM I'm really sold on adult (or near adult) shelter mutts. I'm partial to lab, GSD, and catahoula mixes. Size, general health, and grooming requirements are taken into consideration. Behavioral problems are not much of an issue because I enjoy adopting messed up dogs noone else wants.   Nothing against purebreds at all, though. If I ended up with one somewhere along the line, that's fine too. []   I feel sorry for the many of the designer mixes, and would also adopt one of these from a shelter if the situation happened.    I doubt I'll ever spend more than a shelter fee for a dog in need of a home. Too many unwanted dogs, and my only personal interest is in companionship and the ability to keep up with me on walks and hikes.
