NEED Cheap, Effective, Mud-Proof Coat for Shippo!!

I am sick and tired of cleaning mud off Shippo day after day after day when it rains or snows (Yes, it's still SNOWING here!!!) so I'm looking for a cheap jacket for him to wear during times like this. It has to be affordable, easy to put on, and has to cover all his belly feathering, and all four legs. Waterproof is also a plus. Does anyone know of any websites where I can order something like this? I'm desparate!

I wouldn't call these cheap, but they fit your other requirements:

Janet, the k9 Top Coats don't fit short legged dogs. I wish they did. I'd buy one for Teenie!

This is a cheap place - I have yet to order from them but they will custom make things and they are definately cheap - especially if you are in the States[:D]

I don't know about coats, but my experience with fabric tells me you'd be best going with heavy polar fleece (300 or 400 weight). I make cloth diapers, so I have a lot of experience with water-repelling fabrics, and good polar fleece is breathable, waterproof, and soft. Being waterproof, naturally it doesn't absorb moisture or collect things quite as easily. Good brands of polar fleece are Malden Mills and Tonitex. They are used quite frequently to make diaper covers, so you know they must be good!

I had the idea today to sew custom doggie items for people... now this has me all excited and I think I may sew a coat for Tojo even though he totally doesn't need one!

ETA: are you looking for something like this pattern? http://www.rockywoods.com/Patterns/3076.htm Like the full-body one that the dalmation is wearing?

The one the dalmatian is wearing is exactly what I'm looking for! If somebody were to make something like that but not charge $70 for it, I would most definitely pay.

Would the coat from that pattern be easy to put on though? I noticed that in all the ones in the other links have like velcro or someting that you attach on the top after putting the coat on, which would make them easy to put on.

I just discovered another problem with Shippo and dog coats... for some reason, he falls into sleeves when he's walking, so if I get a coat I'm going to have to modify it to keep that from happening... >-.-;<

It's the short legs[:D] Teenie does that, too. The coat has to fit snugly, and the sleeves have to be pretty short (like halfway down her legs) for her to not walk clear OUT of a sweater or coat.

If the sleeves are stretchy, maybe I could get away with them being long enough to hold in his leg feathering...

Hmm I am sorry I do not know of any coats. But it sounds like a good idea. I think i wil need one!:)

That's a good idea. Snug, strechy sleeves to keep the feathers covered.

Poor Shippo. He has no idea what's coming....
