I'm a Worrier (gradyupmybutt) - Pupdate

Poor Grady! I hope your footsie gets all better.

Annie, I know what you mean about being a worrier. The other day Rupert was eating dinner, then half way though he sat down, stared at his bowl and whined. I thought, "Oh no! He has something wrong with his throat and it hurts to swallow! Or maybe he has a broken tooth! Or maybe his food is bad! Or maybe..."

I got up and went over to him. There was a lone kibble floating in his water dish, and he wanted it OUT! He could not finish his dinner until the renegade kibble was taken care of. What a little turkey.

Hmmm Grady's Momma,... well the age rules out Pano and the diet rules out most rudimentary joint inflamations , it is not overly high in protein and that can cause a bit of discomfort.  Chances are he has scrambled to gain footing on the slippery ice and that caused a small sprain.  Or  ...Think If you get a cuticle cut on any finger just how painful that whole finger is from that oh so tiny cut.... Dogs do get the equivalent of cuticle cuts around the base of the nail.  Sometimes it pusses up and other times it is just cracked or reddened and sore enough to create a limp.  I had a very, very healthy Show girl limp when she got in the ring, the judge and I looked and looked at her foot , the one she favored , and found nothing. Shockingly we found a piece of gum wadded up in a different foot !! She seemed fine on that foot.  ....  check all of his feet, and since there is ice out it would not hurt to use a really good moisturizer on his toes, pads and especially around especially around the nail bed. I actually like vaseline. It is hard on carpets if you smear it one too thickly but it will not cause a problem should they lick it off.  Sometimes the best thing you can do is crate overnight. Just to restrict movement and weight on the foot or toe.  I would avoid ALL OTC meds, they can cause more problems that they are worth. And masking the slight pain can cause further damage by encouraging the dog to use that limb. Please keep in touch with all of us, we are all very interested in Mr Grady Up Your Butt Wink

DH is almost home & when he gets home we're gonna rassle Grady to the ground so I can have a GOOD look @ his paw.  He seems to be a bit perkier but is still favoring his foot.  Now it looks like his outside toe is a little swollen.  I'm sure he'll hate having a foot massage with oil but I'll try it anyway.  Maybe he'll look @ it as some quality mom & me time.  If it looks swollen tomorrow I'm calling Dr. P.  He will get crate rest tonight.  He sleeps in his crate anyway.

~LOL~  OMG!  Roopy, you are something else.

Hope Grady is OK.  Willow feels his pain.  She just saw a specialist two weeks ago due to arthritis in both shoulders.

Oh, best wishes to the GradyBoy that he's feeling better soon.  I can sympathise with paw injuries, Ben's is fresh in my mind.

Grady, get better so your poor mama can stop worrying, ok?

Hope you're feeling better today Grady.

Tallyman slipped on the ice last week and limped for a day or so...
We didn't over exercise him the next day...(no walk at the base, no hard playing, etc)

I totally understand the worrying thing...
Give Grady big smooches from me and I hope everything is better soon...

First, thanks everyone for your replies & good wishes.  It's great to know that I'm not the only worrier around here.  I'm not surprised though. :o)

After delivering all the kisses & lovin's from y'all & a good, long night's sleep (thank you Snickers) he's doing much better.  He's not favoring it or limping.  I'm a happy doggie mom today.  Yes

    Yay Gradyman! Big Smile

That's good news! I'm glad he's better. Maybe he had a thorn in his paw and was able to take it out while you were sleeping. Big, tough dogs can be sneaky that way. :oD
