Another vote to keep the e-collar on and keep a close watch on the eye. Legend had a corneal scratch that just didn't respond to anything. The ointments and meds just laughed at it, it seemed. It ended up ulcerating and required a surgery and had to have his eye sewn shut for what ended up being 3 weeks instead of 2, as his stitches just wouldn't stay in, in spite of his living in a cone. We joked he must have mutant eyelids.
It did heal eventually, but his cornea is scarred now and does require periodic drops if it dries up.
Also, as was said, the atropine drops (or ointment, I believe it comes in both forms) does do a lovely job of keeping them comfy
