Canine Abuse

I've never had any sort of serious injury from Misha. He has hit me in the face with his head before, but he hit me in the cheekbone and it was just sore, no bruises or broken bones. He once scratched me in the face (I don't know how he managed that), but it didn't even break the skin.

Apollo, on the hand, once broke someone's nose so badly they got two black eyes. But that's what you got when you put your face too close to his giant pit bull head. I narrowly missed 'Palo head/my cheekbone contact once. I never did that again.

While trying to get Ginny away from loose dogs that run up to us and start fights when we are walking (all too common occurrence) she has bitten me multiple times on accident (trying to break up a dog fight when you are holding one dog by the leash and getting shoved around and tangled up is pretty difficult)

Once her entire canine went completely into my forearm - I could see tendon...I had to stick a syringe down in it to flush it out and keep it clean till it healed over, still have the scar. Most of the others ones are the normal "slash/tear" dog bites. I hate living in a college town where people just let their untrained/undersocialized dogs run around offleash...Angry

Plus all the usual...some bruised or bloody noses from wrestling and being bumped the wrong way, a few whaps in the eye with a tail, a few scratches on the face from face-pawing (a bad habit she still has when playing), rope  burn, etc.

She doesn't mean to play rough, she just has all the coordination of a blind elephant. You should see her face when I gasp and she realizes she accidently scratched me or something...utter horror!! Oh mommy, I'm SO SOWWEE!!! OH NOES!! The tail goes between the legs, her eyes get all big and watery...heh heh.....

If he thought they were getting too close he would look for an opening anywhere and run between someones legs.

I have the same thing with Kobi. When he was a puppy he used to nip at our feet when we would come in the door. To avoid the razor cuts on my ankles I started straddling him with my legs and would rub his butt. So that became his way of greeting people. Of course we are all used to it now but occassionally he will surprise the odd visitor. 80lbs of wagging butt can be a little bit of a shocker. LOL

LOL Denise!  Crusher does it when he thinks you're not paying attention to him.  My sister tries for all she's worth to ignore him when she comes her, but he won't have it.  She's shorter than me by several inches so she gets lifted off her feet!  Then she's usually like,"Ok OK I see you!  Yes you're pretty!  Now leave me alone you stupid dog!'' laughing all the while.  Her son-in-law thinks its the greatest thing in the world.  But he's also fairly certain that Crusher is a 12 pound lap dog.

hahahaha!! You guys have made me feel SO much better. I was thinking my dog was just a klutz and me his hapless victim or it's my fault and he's mine?(clearly it's my fault that i bend down to put on socks or tie my shoes!)

I'm sorry to hear about several of your accidents, a concussion... whiplash, shattered legs.  I need to be careful I don't have health insurance here yet!

The shelter dogs have beaten me up as much as Gypsy! I got a pair of black eyes from one of the Pits (she reared up to greet me just as I leaned over to put a leash on her). Another Pit tripped me and I hyperextended my left ring and pinkie fingers (bruises up to my wrist!).  I have also been bitten by one of our shelter dogs, had leashes wrapped around me, bitten by one of the CATS...sigh.

I have a scar on the tops of each hand from Gypsy's razor sharp puppy teeth.  She missed her toys and got ME. She gave me a black eye recently and has given me numerous small scratches, etc..

Sasha, my last dog, actually broke my left pinkie years ago.  She reached for a toy during a game of tug and jammed her muzzle full force into my finger. This is the finger I broke again (it was the only time I realized I HAD broken it!) last year.  Since the joint healed irregularly, they thought I had a tumor in the finger.  Scared me to death, needless to say.

DH jokingly says he doesn't want to be with me when I come home with another dog-related injury because people will think HE did it!

Ummm, yeah.  DH went with me to see the doc about my ankle and boy did HE ever get the evil eye!

I had forgotten that Thor broke two of my fingers accidently.  Misty, the crazed cocker had picked another fight with him and I was between teh two of them having broken it up.  She darted forward, and  I think that Thor thought she was after me (that's my story and I'm sticking to it) and went to grab HER with his mouth and got ME instead.  That particular injury was treated by my vet.....I didn't want Thor to have a bite record.
