Wow, I can't believe both breeders have the policy of charging for the puppy staying over 8 weeks. [:-] I think I've only seen a handful of breeders that have a policy like that. The first breeder chargers $50 a week; the second breeder charges $25 a DAY, so it ends up being $175 per week! [:o]

Aww the pup in the petfinder link from NJ is sooo cute.  There's so many more resuced males than females - what a shame.

As for the breders, the one that does the testing (cerf & ofa), the first one, is in tennesse which I wouldn't be able to visit.  The second breeder doesn't perform those tests, but she's closer & I can visit.  Can't have it both ways i guess!!

Have you taken any steps to contact the dogs that are available for adoption?

I really think that would be a good idea.

To me it seems silly to pay 1200+ for a dog when you could save a life (of the same breed) for next to nothing compared to that price. Personally, I would rather support rescue than support an irreuptable breeder.

I don't mean to come across as negative, but I feel like we are flooded by people looking for mixed breeds and Im not sure what the push is to go with a breeder.

I see that you volunteer for a Golden rescue, thats really nice to see. (That would be a plus on an adoption application!)

Let me add, though, that if you MUST go with the breeder, I think its great that you are asking around and doing your research... you've come to the right place for knowledgeable people.

Why don't you visit the one you can, and then call the other on the phone to get a good idea of how they compare?

It's always nice to look in shelters, but if you're really sold on wanting a puppy, as others have said it's great that you're doing your homework.

OMG all those cuties on Petfinder !   I'm gonna get myself in trouble someday if I keep going to that site - all those adorable babies just waiting for a forever home.  Olivers story broke my heart - I'm sure he's thinking "why am I HERE ?  where's my mom and dad ???".  Fortunately dogs tend to live in the moment, so I'm sure he'll be just as wonderful in his new forever home.
