Potty problem again!!! (mrstjohnson)

Well, in the winter, for Rascal the best post-potty reward imaginable is being allowed to go back inside where it's toasty warm. So keep your particular dog's needs and preferences in mind :)

I am hauling out out the big guns tonight..hot dogs with cheese, when he starts to pee that's what he's getting; hopefully, that will speed him up.

When this type of weather starts I don't think he cares if he goes out or not, so I don't know how much the no walk if no potty thing will work, but I am willing to try anything.  Last year when it got really cold he wouldn't leave the porch and would just pee on the porch before I could do anything and turn around and run inside.

I tried the recrate training thing this morning and afternoon and he didn't seem to mind going back to sleep, and he slept all morning and afternoon in it according to DH so that doesn't work either.

Man, beagles are so stubborn...but, ahh, so am I Wink

I totally agree with Mudpuppy! This isn't rocket science, and sounds pretty simple to me.  Take him to ONE spot, on a leash and tell him  "Potty"!  Don't move till he does!  If he only pees when he is out on walks he doesn't know how to stay on task.  This works great for Zoe.  Just don't give him so many options.

Do you have an area in your yard where there's a bush or tree, out of the way of possible wind, etc.?  Maybe if you can find him a spot where he's a little more protected from the elements he'll feel more at easy to lift his leg.  Poor little thing, I'm sure it's that darn cold!  Good Luck!

Well hopefully the issued has been resolved.  I snowed 6 inches last night and he had no problem going in the snow last night or this morning.  I think the issue was that everything had turned to ice and he couldn't get steady with his leg up.  Plus, with the snow so high it touches his privates and makes him go Stick out tongue

I have been giving him the cheesy hotdog pieces and he's getting it so hopefully we are good to go.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone, and Callie, I am picking up rubber cement tonight to try the baby sock thing, hopefully that will work.  I am going to try putting them on him after we get outside so he will maybe understand that with this thingys on my feet won't hurt...who knows.
