National Dog Show Post Mortem

I've got a family full of hunters and they were all mocking the show.  When the Plott came on, everyone was like "that is NOT a Plott! I'd like to see that dog on a bear!..." bla bla bla.  They kept asking me if that REALLY is how a Plott is supposed to look and I said I have no clue.  I'm not into hounds and I've not seen many Plotts since they were only added what like last year?  I mean I know they've been around forever b/c apparently everyone in my family knows this guy and that guy that's hunted with them.  So hound people, IS that a correct Plott or is a "correct" plot like a "correct" German Shepherd (my CAT probably has better structure conducive for herding sheep all day, though I will say yesterday's GSD didn't appear quite so extremely angulated, but again, they didn't give us the NAME!).

 it seemed stockier and taller than what I have seen in working plotts around here,that is why I wanted to know the height and weight but the rest of it seemed fine.  the coat a very very dark brindle is normal, the head shape and eyes were seemed fine - but I am not a 'hound' expert so may be some one will chime in

one thing is plotts are supposed to have super white teeth 

yeah, i didn't think they did a very good job. Didn't get to see a ridgeback :(

i will tell you one thing though, "Agador" the dobe was spectacular. i've watched him in other shows. I also thought the gordon setter was beautiful.

I met him and his handler at a show.  Talk about a beautiful dobie....wow.  He's one of my favorites. 

 I don't know squat about Plotts but if you're concerned about working ability, it shouldn't matter what the dog looks like. That's why you do tend to get a tone of variation in sizes among the coonhounds. Different hunters have different preferences, some like to run a smaller dog (the lines that Marlowe comes out of are small, supposed to be quicker and more agile), some like a larger stockier dog, or a leggier dog. But the ability to do that work lies in the nose and the temperament. If a hound has a great cold nose and courage, tenacity and independence, then I don't see why it couldn't get on the bear and do it's job.

Plotts have only been showable in AKC for a year, so I'd hope that they haven't been "ruined" already. That would be surprisingly fast, no?
