That's just ridulcous! How about this? I will come & bother you when you're eatting.

Wow, and my shock continues. Ridiculous? (
I think dogs should have their own space when meal time that is it! What's the outcome of the whole thing?

The out come is a dog that can become food aggressive and end up hurting someone.

Go ahead, check with shelters and rescue groups and see if you continue to think that way. I'd be shocked if you did.

I want to add. I know theirs MIlLLIONS of dogs in shelters right now are either being put to death row or being pass over to homes to homes!

I don't think you have a clue why? Many first time owners NEVER do their home work researching about dogs, or/and behoviors. VERY afew novic owners do their home work & are awesome dogs owners. Also their are those owners who are very uneducated & usually pick out the wrong dog for the wrong fit for the family.

The list of commonly reasons that dogs are being put in shelters everyday:
    1) They don't have time for the dog
    2) They're expensive
    3) The owner gets divorce either wants to care for the dog
    4) Want Kids
    5) Move
    6) The dog has grown
    7) Don't want to have anything with the dog etc

The issue is not the dogs that are brought in, but the dogs that are being put down. Very rarely will a shelter adopt out a food/object aggressive dog. They are almost always ;put to sleep. But if the dog wasn't aggressive, then they have a chance in finding a new home.

Agian I'm guessing, no small children around your house

I think you shouldn't be the one to misjudge, you don't know anything about me. I'm so sick of you saying that. In fact their are disable adult living in this house, they're even smarter then those people on that show even CM. They know better not to even go near a dog during meal time

Resource guarding is only natural in dogs that think there's something to guard. Why would my dog ever think he/she would need to guard their food from the food provider, that simple makes no sense. And yes what the owners were doing was silly and foolish, obviously they had no clue about what they were doing. I saw nothing wrong with what CM did, but doesn't meen I'd do it exactly the same.

How about those of you who believe he did it wrong explain how you would do it. And for those who think dogs shouldn't be bothered at food time, please be careful with children around your dogs.

    Moderator hat is on again,
This thread is being watched...I want everyone to play nice and if you need to step away....calm down and come back I'd highly advise doing so.

I want NO personal comments, and the overall tone needs to remain RESPECTFUL (not to be confused with condescending or snide) or I will shut this entire thread down for a few days.

ETA: Ms_paws and Awsome...take it private...no more tit for tat.

I taught my dogs to accept people around them while eating from the moment they joined my home (as puppies). I hand fed a lot, held their chews while they nibbled, played 'trade' games (I take up your dish, you get a great goodie, and they you get your food back) and pet them while they ate.

I do not want a food aggressive dog in my home. Not to mention, if they are possessive of their food, that is going to carry over to other food items that might be inappropriate. What if they pick up a harmful piece of garbage while on a walk? If they're possessive, I won't be able to take that food item from them.

Dogs aren't people, so I don't view it as "well I wouldn't want someone tapping me while I eat"  My dogs need to rely on me to be able to keep them safe.  They may not know they're grabbing something harmful, so I might need to remove that from them.  To do so, they have to be comfortable with me around them while eating. Which my boys are.

In fact, I made it such a positive thing when he was a puppy that even now, at almost 11, Legend would prefer I sit and pet him while he has things to chew on. If he had his way I'd hold it for him while he gnaws as well[;)]

Well sinse I work with dogs for a living, do volunteer work for some rescue groups, i say your wrong and try adding aggression to that list. i don't care what # you put it at, because of course we know everyone tells the truth about why they're dumping their dog.

Perhaps we can revisit this thread in a day or two. If further discussion on food aggression and the ramifications of it,  is desired please do start a thread in the appropriate area of Training or Behavior....the archives are also a good place to look for recent thoughts on the subject.
