    I was always told that heartworms could not pass through the placenta barrier.  But maybe that's just what they used to think.  Interesting.....

    The early developmental stage of the heartworm can indeed cross placentally

    However, the worms cannot achieve sexual maturity in the pup because they have skipped the essential intermediate host of the mosquito....so the pup may have some tiny worms for a while, but they will all die quite soon with usually no, or little, complication.

    cumasmommy...you're not the only cynic. I wondered myself. Actually, I hope it was. There are too many questionable aspects of this post. I'd worry about those dogs.

    Well, either way, the pup couldn't have had the disease then, right?  Or, at least not one needing to be treated, right?
