Surgery for ingrown eyelashes

    Surgery for ingrown eyelashes

Just had my Zoe in to the vet, and she said her bottom lids are rolled in, causing her eyelashes to irritate her eyes, thus the excessive eye watering.

Has anyone had this done on their dog?  Tell me your story.

    Thanks,
    Sweetbon

It wasn't my dog who I have seen go through this surgery, but I have seen quite a few (I used to work at a rescue) dogs and cats go through this successfully with no problems at all. I believe that there is a name for this, but I can't remember it at the moment.

The only thing I can add to this is that a lot of chows have this issue or other eye issues are common for the breed.  The chows on the forum I'm on have all come thru the procedure to correct this with no problems.

Entropion is relatively common and a fairly easy fix. It's definitely worth it for the dog's comfort. The surgery itself is basically plastic surgery. They usually remove (or use some similar method) a portion of the eyelid that is rolling, causing the eyelid to be 'tight' enough so that it can't roll under anymore. My roomates dog had it done and you would never know. He has no scars or issues with that eye.

I personally had a ingrown eyelash but it wasnt due to my eyelids rolling, it was do to these amazing lashes mama gave me, ha ha! They just flipped my lid inside out and plucked it but the reason I chose to share this is because IT IS SO UNCOMFERTABLE, to the point that I was freaking out, I wanted to claw my eye out!!!! I'm not a wimp either, at least if it was apinful I coulda took something for it but I couldnt, i just had to deal. Really if you can get this done asap please do, mine was only that way for 3 days and the doc said my eyeball was so scratched that when he looked at it through the microscope it looked like a spirograph!

Entropian surgery is relatively simple.  Usually the area around the pup's eye will be quite swollen after surgery, but the swelling subsides quckly.  I would make sure that you are sent home with an E-Collar, so that you pup doesn't tear sutures out.

My foster Newt just had the eye etropian surgery.  I had this experience a couple of times.  What the vet does is cuts out a pie-shape skin below the outer edge of the lower lid and then sutures.  The sutures are silk so they are less irrating.  There was not a lot of swelling in my 3 experiences.  I can tell the irritation and watering stops immediately.  The dog will have the stitches in for 10 days and will have to wear an e-collar.  That is the biggest problem because that e-collar is plastic, hard, and the dog is banging into everything including you.  Check out the different e-collars available and here is my experience and the responses I received.

I have not had this with Trudy, but I know of one or two dogs that had it successfully done.

the vet also said she would flush out Zoe's tear ducts to make sure they are clear while she is doing the surgery.
