Have you tasted your dog's food?

used to eat kibble as a kid...maybe that's why dogs and I understand each other so well now?

Paul Newman ate some of his own wet dog food on some talk show...lol...if it's good enough for Paul....??

the little cheapy snausage-type dog treats i do not feed my dog because i tried one once and it tasted like play-doh,

They DO! I thought I was the only crazy that thought that[;)] I'm a vegetarian now, so I don't go around tasting dog treats (unless they're veggie treats, then I do. I always taste the veggie stuff I make for them), but I used to taste them. They're mostly pretty bland. All of the less than great kibbles I've tried were extremely.... cracker like. I haven't tried the premium kibbles, because I've been vegetarian for longer than I've been feeding good food.

I haven't, but the cat has.  He approves.  [:)]

Never tried kibble.  But a few years ago I had a dog that had to have dental work done and I was told to give him soft food for a few days.  I picked up a few cans of Pedigree chicken and that stuff smelled so good ... I was thinking I could have heated it up and given it to DH over rice. [:D]

I've tasted Solid Gold Beef & Barley kibble - it tasted vaguely beef-like, pretty bland. I've also nibbled a bit of one of his dried chicken treats - unsurprisingly it tasted like plain, unsalted chicken.

Dogs don't actually taste things as well as we do... they have about 1000-1500 taste buds compared to our 9000-10,000. The more taste buds you have the more complex tastes you can recognize. So dogs don't really distinguish between flavors well... they are more concerned with smell and texture.

Defiantly no. Tripe, fish, raw bones….I just make it, don#%92t taste it!

The kibble, no, I just do not see pleasure in it. I smell it though, and it smells like something I would eat. I am just not that tempted by rice and chicken smashed into little chunks.

Ive tasted the Nutro deserts, all of them, lol... the smell of those things made me way too curious to resist.

I have not tried the Innova yet but am tempted to now.  I did try the Nutro Natural a while back, it was pretty much like nothing.  The EP fish that I feed Minnie I will not taste tho, that smell is enough for me!  Im gonna go taste Innova now.[:)]

This thread could get very humiliating very quickly.  Can I use the "I didn't inhale" excuse?  I guess not, so here goes.  I have tried the kibble, canned food, and treats.  Would I eat it regularly? Oh no, that stuff was terrible, I couldn't understand why the dogs would eat that stuff.  Then it all clicked, the dogs love to eat cat poo so nasty tasting dog food must be a delicatessen.  Who would have known?

Seems like I'm in the minority. I haven't ever and wouldn't ever try dog food. Especially the canned. Even thinking about it practically makes me dry heave.[;)][:'(] It could be the exact same ingredients as beef stew; it's just knowing that it's dog food really freaks me out for some reason.

I never have, but I have always thought Pup-peroni and Beggin' Strips have always smelt delicious!
