Changing your mind about certain dog breeds

If their owner treats them and trains them like an actual dog, they turn out okay.

Do you really expect that to happen?[:)]  I've never seen a well-trained toy breed!

Well...I've been bitten by 3 ers and you still can't convince me that they're great dogs, unless they're from good stock.  I used to think that I wanted a flock guarding dog like an Ovchartka or Komondor-now I realize that those are dogs I couldn't have because of my active social lifestyle.

And the major change was- I used to think that hybrids were awesome and that having one would be the coolest thing in the world.  Now I think that to purposely breed them as pets is not only wrong but also sad.

I never in a million years thought I'd end up with a chow.  And, now I can't imagine myself with any other breed.  [:)]

I used to hate dachshunds. I work at a vet clinic and 98-99% of the dachshunds we see are biters.  So my thoughts were that they were all spastic little fear biters.  Then on August 3,2006 I met Shooter and my mind has been changed (some anyway).  The other tech came out of a room and told me that the puppy inside had parvo.  My reply was "O.K. What are they going to do about it?"  She said "Euthanize, apparently it is cheaper to buy a new pup, than to treat this one'  I went on to ask breed & age, because what can I say I'm curious.  She said 6 week old dachshund and my immediate thoughts were "well at least it's not something good".  We went back in to "do the deed" and I fell in love with this puppy when I walked through the door.  I asked the owner if I could attempt to treat him & if he survived keep him as my own.  They said yes and in typical dachshund fashion (very stubbornly) Shooter beat parvo.  He is now almost 5 months old, and I am training him to be what the rest of our dachshund clients dogs are not.  A well socialized, obedient companion.  I won't say that he doesn't frustrate me, but I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world.

I used to not like Chihuahuas, I thought they were yappy in your face little dogs (well they are) but I met Lilly and she is just about the silliest, sweetets, smartest little thing in the face of the earth.  When I met her, my friend warned me that she did not like women, so I completely ignored her for the first 30 minutes that she acted like she was going to tear me apart, I had a piece of dehydrated chicken on my hand the whole time.  I sat on the floor not looking at her, five minutes passed I felt her climbing my leg, I leaned back and she kept going until she reached my face, licked my nose and we have been best buddies since.[:D]

I used to be scared of Dobermans because I got bitten one as a child (totally my fault) but my friend got one and he is the biggest goof and nothing but a gentlemen with Rory!
I dont care for little dogs, not because of them literally but becuase of the owners (please dont take it personal). They turn into yappy lil monsters because the owners coddle them like they are going to break. We walk in petsmart and you hear lil dog owners gasp and pick up "their baby" or they jerk their leash back which puts the little dogs on guard yet they have the nerve to look at your average sized dog like its the monster!
I've seen many lil dogs put big dogs in their place and a lot of lil dogs can handle themselves pretty darn well. Not to mention that if I'm bringing my dog in a public place it obviously has a respectable level of obediance, do I look like a idiot? Or their was this lady in petsmart with her dog in a lil designer bag and she is standing in line going "hows my poopy do? shooby dooby, dooby do!'Oh man that drives me crazy!

I understand not all are like this so please dont take offense.

My dog is only 16 pounds, and people cross the street when they see us coming (remember, these are toy poodle owners we're talking about)!  Their dog could be unfriendly or something, but you know, when we pass by, the dogs are whining to see each other.

Also, I talk to my dog like that woman did at petsmart.  All the time.  I go "Who's my wuvvy duvvy?" or "I wuv my duvvy" or something like that.
