Peanut the foster kitty

I've been though this. She looks about 4 weeks to me. I brought Miep home at 3 weeks, she looked just a little smaller than that.

Food - Buy KMR Kitten Stage 2 formula. It is a weaning formula, not a baby kitten formula. I've pasted a linkhttp://www.petag.com/products_items.asp?SubcategoryID=12&CategoryID=2.
Do not and I repeat, Do NOT buy another generic brand of kitten formula. It could cause more harm than good. KMR made my Pet Ag is the only milk replacer/weaning formula vets recommend. Why?...It is the only true replacer. The others are suppliments, not mothers milk replacers.

Also, Royal Canin makes a baby cat food called Royal Canin Baby Cat. Specifically meant for kittens at weaning stage. You mix the RC with the KMR and water. At about 6 weeks start decreasing the amount of formula and add more hard food. At 8 weeks the kitty should be completely off of formula and should just have hard food maybe mixed with a bit of water. Royal Canin Baby Cat can be fed until 4 months. After that feed what ever you please.

You may also want to get a cat litter called Cat Attract. It has a feramone to attract the kitten to use the litter box. This helped tremendously with little Miepy. She was pooing all over or closet before this. You may also need to do some butt massaging with a warm we cloth to get the little kid to go pooh. Usually they are able to go pooh on their own by 4 weeks, though.

Oh, get a spray bottle too. A little squirt of water goes a long way when it comes to training a kitten not to climb curtains.

    Good luck

Now I'm sure that this is just because I picked her up from the Humane Society, but they've got her on just dry kitten kibble. I have no idea what brand, but I'm sure it's not great. So you think I should switch her to the mix you described? Will that upset her tummy?

She already has some soft poo issues. She did use the litterbox twice last night. She's really funny--she gets in the litter box and scoops the litter into a pile, then she sits on the pile and goes to the bathroom. So now she's got poo all over her! I keep having to clean her off and I don't really want to pick her up, because I don't want to spread germs everywhere if she does happen to be sick.

I've got a vet appointment for next Wednesday for my 14 year old cat just to make sure her vaccines are ok. Right now both cats are upstairs, but the kitten is locked in the shower. Should I not let her roam around the rest of the upstairs until after the vet appointment? The kitten really doesn't seem sick at all, and my older cat is up to date. But I would just be devastated if anything happened--I've had Kristy since she was just a little bigger than Peanut.

She's too young to be on just dry kitten food right now. If she was with her mother she'd still be nursing, so I would get some KMR Second Step and mix it with the kitten food. Kittens will have runny poo no matter what.

Oh, and the point of KMR and Royal Canin Baby Cat is to boost their immune system. Right now she is very susceptible to diseases. Regular Kitten food won't boost her immune system and isn't designed to provide all she needs at such a young age.

I posted a picture of Miepy when I brough her home.http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j68/jojothepogo/DSC00037-1.jpg

Here's my favorite picture of her everhttp://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j68/jojothepogo/DSC00043.jpg Yes that's my dogs tail and my husbands pale hairy leg.

Here is Miep 6 months agohttp://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j68/jojothepogo/DSC00421.jpg She's lost some weight since then.

Thanks for the info. I just gave her a little canned food that I had here and I'm going to go buy what you recommended later today.

Miepy is just precious! Her coloring looks a lot like little Peanut.
