Hypoallergenic dogs?

Standard Poodles and Schnauzers are larger, low-shed dogs. Wheaten terriers are low-shed dogs usually medium sized, I think 40 to 50lbs. I know allergies are a big consideration but in terms of being able to live in harmony with your dogs I urge to think about other breed traits like exercise requirements, sociability, etc. These are important considerations when choosing a breed!
 
I'm allergic to cats and my experience with cat allergies is that every cat is different and there is no way for me to tell the severity of my allergy just by looking at a cat or the length of its fur or how much it sheds. I've known cats that I can pet and hold and be fine... and then with other cats all I need to do is walk into the house and my eyes puff up. I think the best idea is to go a shelter, meet the dogs, select one (or two or three) that appeal to you and then (if the shelter allows it) take them out to play for a bit, pet them, see how you react. Or else... invest in Claritin. []

Standard Poodles, Giant Schnauzers, and Bouviers tend to be pretty good for people with allergies, and those three breeds are good sized. Bouvs, in particular, are large dogs. They're awesome, but they do require quite a bit of upkeep, and training. Standard Poodles are some of the most easy going dogs around. I just adore them.

There's also the Briard. I don't have a lot of experience with them. The one I groomed was very, very sweet and easy going.

Standard Poodle. Don't knock it until you've met a few. They are GRRREAT!

DON'T get a "doodle" when a Poodle would do exactly what you want! And you would know you would be getting the low-shed coat, but with a "doodle" you have no idea what you are getting.

And they don't have to have a ton of grooming. Just have the coat clipped short all over periodically. No need for a foo-foo look!

They have great personalities, and I know for a fact they handle the cold, there are several up here who live indoor/outdoor and are quite hardy.

Standard Poodles are wonderful, and like Jeano said, there is no need for the foo foo hair, if you dont like it.  I keep mine one length all over.  He is a very big boy as well.  He weighs almost 70 lbs and he stands at almost 27 inches at the whithers.

Wow he's so cute. He's big, but he has a face that can melt. Poodles are supposed to be very smart as well.

My friend has a very allergic house...Her hubby and her kids are all allergic to tons of things.
 
They haave co-existed with 2 soft coated wheaten terriers very well . They lost both of thier dogs this year and are currently waiting for the new replacement puppies ( both wheatens) to grow old enough to come home.
 
Her dogs were 30 and 40 pounds. They did go in to get groomed about every three months.
