Well, my vac is green, so it's a different model, but I just went and looked at it. And AHA...there IS a flter over there (it says "high efficiency allergy filtration on it, though). It's not spongy, but a louvered type filter. I never knew that part opened. Will have to dig out the book and reread the instructions, and look at it in the daylight. It didn't look too bad in the dark, but that is probably what is wrong. Thanks so much!

Just as an aside, it seems like lately I am always trying to figure out what is wrong with vacs and steam cleaners. I have gotten to ordering belts in quantities of 3 or more, just to have them. Drives DH nuts to always be taking them apart.

I have a Eureka The Boss and I do like it. It stopped working the other day and my first instict is always to just buy new and not investigate. Well, this new man in my life tells me I am wasteful with money when I do things like that (of course he has been the one helping me clean out the massive clutter in this house from my many shopping sprees, so I guess he would know[

]) .. investigation has shown I just need a $2 belt... took all the fun out of things!!!!!! I wanted a new vacuum.. never thought I'd see the day when buying a new vacuum would be exciting, and that I'd actually get upset when it was proven I didn't need a new one- I think I need a life[

I have the Dyson DC14 Full Kit from Costco.. and I freakin LOVE IT! It truly sucks. If my cat walks by while I am using it on the rugs, he gets sucked bald. Poor kitty! I had a Kirby before this one, and the difference in what gets picked up by the Dyson is well, truly disgusting. Who knew so much particulate matter (dust, dander, sand blah blah) could come out of rug! I nearly fainted. Ew.

We got a Dyson Animal a few months ago and we love it!! Our other vacuum was old and did not suck at all!! I am amazed how much stuff the Dyson picked up, it was amazing!! I also love the turbine head, great for the furniture and the dog beds, pick up all the hair!!

It's also kind of fun to just let the Dyson sit out when the cannister is full. People sort of give you a very strange look - you just know they want to ask if you just vacuumed up a squirrel but they're afraid of the answer. [][]
