Anybody have a hybrid vehicle?

My friend has a tiburon and she loved it (I suppose still does but I haven't talked to her in a few months).

I don't think I'd want a hybrid for myself, though they're fine for others.  For me, a normal car will suffice.  Plus, I've read about the hybrids not earning the huge MPG the automakers brag about.

My Accord has 150K, but I see no reason to get a newer car.  Always starts and never has any problems.  I'm looking forward to the new Accord in 2007; hopefully, it will have a better front end design.  I love the LED lights in the back of the '06s and up, though.

I never would have admitted this years ago, but I'd definitely give the Sonata or Elantra a try before looking at an Accord or Civic.  They've come a long way.  And with the lower price, excellent standard safety features, and huge warranty, they're worth a look in my book.

My aunt bought a Hyundai Tucson last year.  She loves its smooth ride and the standard safety features.  Plus, the price was great.  It's been trouble-free, too.

I saw a commercial the other day that said the suburu outback gets 28 mpg. ;Plus i think they're kind of cool looking. And a lady with two vizsla's at my obedience club drives one.  She can fit two crate very easily into it.

My cousin had a tiburon, and he blew the clutch on it pretty fast. However, do not take that to mean they are poor quality, just that my cousin is an idiot who probably doesn't know how to drive very well.

I was looking at the Pruis online...haven't had time to see one in person...I didn't think they were all that bad money wise, I just wondered about the advertised MPG.....those of you that know people with one...how do they rate it.....the thing I was reading said like 55 at low speed (using electric) and about 45 at high speeds (gas). Still better than my Ford Escape that get about 19mpg.

I have a farmy friend who drives an Outback, and her whole family are like Outback groupies.  She adores hers, can fit two BC sized crates in it (not "easily" but they fit), and she says if you can't get there in an Outback, you shouldn't be going there.

If you like Hondas and need to fit larger crates, I have heard raves about Honda's toaster-on-wheels, the Element.  Yeah, it's ugly, but the gas mileage is pretty darn good and all my friends who have them as dogmobiles think the world of them. I'm thinking of talking my hubby into one for his toy truck replacement - its a very geeky little car with even the base model being loaded with geeky enhancements.

Hybrids are great for stop and go traffic, a really fuel efficient car like a civic is a great choice if you're mostly doing highway driving. If you're always in the city, a prius can get like 75 miles a gallon!

Avoid GM hybrids. My fil has a ford escape hybrid, and it gets worse gas mileage on the highway than my 91 Nissan pickup. What a joke!

I must say that I have not read this entire thread...sorry if I am repeating anything.  My partner has a Honda Civic Hybrid.  Currently the dashboard readout is showing 49.6 MPG.  Granted most of her driving is freeway miles.  The batteries are behind the back seat and the seat won't fold down.  Other than that...it's just like every other Civic out there.  She LOVES it.  I do too.  Comfy and a very nice ride.   The batteries are warrantied for 10 years and the car requires no "extra" maintenance or servicing just because of the hybrid status.

I'd love to have an Outback. Subaru's rock! I'd also like to have a toaster on wheels Element. That's a spiffy car!
