Education!

I went to a Baptist, very strict, private high school.  After that, unfortunately, I let loose.  Went to Rollins College in Florida and decided to take a six week Spring Break.  Not a good idea!  Got the boot.  Moved back home to pick up the party-girl pieces.  Went to a community college for a while.  Then went to Texas A&M.  Quickly fell back into the party-girl routine and again was left without a campus to call home.  Decided to take the party-girl routine to L.A. to play with the big girls.  Went to Fashion Institute of Design briefly, met my future husband (in a nightclub, where else!), and dropped out for good.  After five years of college, I have two years of college credits under my belt.  Poor Dad...I really do feel bad for him....

I have a BA in Communication/Journalism I don't use.  I'm amazed I even finished school because I contracted a serious case of dontwanttofinish-itis.  Dad insisted though and I'm glad he did.  I tried my wings for nine months at a marketing company but it was family run and had a poor supply of business so I didn't stick around to watch it crash.  It kinda burned me.  Since then I've been working here at Pier 1, doing data entry.  It pays the bills but talk about a waste of a degree.

I did take a cruelty class two years ago through LETI University of Missouri-Columbai.  It was eye-opening and only strengthened my desire to get into cruelty work.  But I'm taking the animal control route first - hopefully city of Grapevine hires me at the end of the month!

I'm a freshman in college (I feel real young right now). I am going for my bachelors in Biology (Emphasis in Zoology) at my current college then hopefully go on to get my masters at another. I might go on for a PhD but I haven't yet decided on that.

OK, I got a degree in Sociology with honors from UMass umpteen years ago...what a worthless field of study even though I loved the studies.  Got married right after college...DH wanted me to stay at home...being military, I looked for a couple temp jobs with no luck, so we started our family.  Our life would have been so much easier if I had gone for something which gave me a skill to use.  So that is what I encouraged my daughter to do...she is now going for her PHD in education and working full time (no kids).  Now my son is a different story...a very talented young man who needs to find his niche.

    Pumaward,

Here's my bit of advice passed on from a PhD mentor to me, and now to you. Don't do the master's if you can get right into a PhD program. Why?
    1. The master's thesis is a waste of your energy if you intend to do a PhD and therefore a PhD thesis.
    2. Many PhD programs encompass all the credits and training for a masters. And if you fail to complete the PhD your parting gift is a often a Master of Science.

I have a BA in history and a minor in political science. I'm finishing my masters in history wooo hoo! I'm currently revising my thesis, and at this point, I don't care *what* I do with the rest of my life! lol I'm just ready to be out of school, and I'm more than ready to move back home.
