Things are going very well. I have 4 that made it and will be ok. 2 didn't make it [:(], but it's better that it happened now, instead of me having to put them down. They eat ground up duck pellets. They wont eat for another 12 hours. They are still dryng up. Another is starting to hatch this morning.

When I went to check on a nest under my hen, I was attacked.  Thats a good thing. Means she will stay on her eggs. In 4 days the rest from my incubator will be hatching thats 20 eggs.

Good mama chicken!!!!  Attack!!!  Teach you to go checking under her feathers!  hahahahaaa  So, when they hatch under the chicken, do you let her raise them too?

Also, what was wrong with the little ones that didn't make it?  Are there a lot of health problems in this breed of duck?  I'm so sorry you lost them.

I take all the babies from their mother or from the foster mother (chicken) because if they go to the pond too early they will drown. Also the males will kill the babies.

The others die because they hatch too soon or too late. Their cords don't dry up and they pull and rupture themselves. Or they are just a weak duck and tire themselves out.

I LOVE the raining ducks story! And wood ducks are special. I've seen them before, but still, they are so neat looking.

Angel, I think you need to turn this hobby into something that makes you money! It's a natural.

Baby ducks. I remember a very funny Doonesbury cartoon panel during the Viet Nam war, where it was reported that bombs killed a certain number of civlians and some baby ducks. BABY DUCKS!???!! screamed Boopsie, totally scandalized.[;)]

I know I've spent lots of time at the duck pond as a kid trying to sneak up on a mama duck and her babies just because I wanted to HOLD that little fluffy baby duck. They are just about as cuuuuute as anything could possibly be! And of course it's impossible to sneak up and catch a wild baby duck by hand. Try it sometime....they are horribly elusive, seem so slow and close and somehow always juuuuuuust out of reach!

You get to hold baby ducks whenever you want! Lucky girl!

Awww .....those are the cutest ;photos!  Swimming in the sink!  They seem to "fluff out" and grow awfully quickly compared to the first photo you posted.

Yes they do. It takes them 24 hours to dry whe n they hatch, then once you place them in the water and they get wet, they can dry in just a few minutes. The other that hatched yesterday is doing very well also.
