Amy, sounds a bit like Borderline Personality Disorder w/ your aunt. A person can have a personality disorder aside from ADD or ADHD, depression, etc. Personality Disorders are much harder to treat because there isn't really any medicines that can complement therapy. Trish and Jean have said a lot of accurate things about the illnesses they've dealt with. My son has all of these issues as well as the personality disorder.
Candace, as far as your b/f, he has to want the help. Your best bet would be to take things slowly. Also talking with someone who can provide objective ideas will help you. Boneyjean's advice was also excellent - you have to decide what you are willing to deal with. Coping? Well, there's always chocolate! I go to therapy myself. I spend time with my pets, read, exercise, take an occasional bubble bath, or call a friend when I need a break from my son.
