Income tax procrastination

Ugh...I saw the title of this thread and thought, oh yeah, there is something I need to do today.  [sm=blush.gif]

Actually, I did finally do my taxes the other day, just haven't filed them yet.  I used turbo-tax online...and have a question.  In years past I've always gotten a refund...this year I have to pay a little bit of Federal.  How does that work with online filing?  Do you give them your checking/credit card number and let them deduct the amount due?  I'm not usually a procrastinator when it comes to taxes...don't know why I was this year.

You can let them deduct it from your checking account if you are comfortable with it.  We have clients do it all the time and have never had problems with it.  I am not sure if you can use your credit card unless Turbo Tax processes it for you.  I don't think the IRS takes credit cards...and in fact last summer when we went to an IRS forum we suggested that it would be a good way for them to get the money a lot of people owe them.

Another option is to file your return and then send a check in separately with a coupon.  I don't know how many options they give you on Turbo Tax but they are options that are usually available.  To make it easy I would probably just let them draft it if that is an option for you.

Thanks Sarah...yes, I'd prefer that they take it from checking, I didn't really want to put it on a credit card.   Ok, off to do my filing.  Thanks again.

Ok, that was fast and easy.  Just an FYI, turbo tax did give the option of paying via credit card.

Fizzlebriches, you and me both.  We always head to H&R Block as soon as we have all the necessary forms - that's usually early in Feb. and by mid month we have it in the bank by direct deposit.
