WAHOOOOOOOO!!! I AM PAIN FREE!!
That was a strange procedure. First they got me settled on the table, on my belly since it was easier to go in through my back....popped me in the CT tube and let it do it's thing, then brought me out, marked my back, sterilized, draped, blah, blah, blah, then numbed me up. THAT part hurt because he didn't just numb the surface but down into the tissues. He had asked me before we started if I wanted a sedative....nah, I'm a tough old broad, and also told me if the fluid was crystal clear there would be no need to test it, but if it was cloudy at all or bloody, they'd send it to the lab. Now, it didn't HURT, but I could FEEL the needle (about 5 inches long!) in my body. The first syringe was rather a bright red and I very calmly said...."so, guess that ones going to the lab huh?" Poor doctor was shocked that I was so calm about it, and even said as much. He tried to tell me that it was nothing to worry about, he probably caused the bleeding with the needle.....and I told him that I wasn't particularly worried......we'd find out soon enough if I needed to panic.
Sooooo.....three trips into the scanner and three needle insertions AND about 50 cc's worth of fluid later, I was done. Then they made me hang around in recovery for a couple hours, but, at least they fed me. And I ate a LOT!!
The not so terrific news is that if it comes back they'll aspirate again, but also try to kill the cells in the walls of the cyst that cause it to fill....and that involves "some pretty toxic stuff". So, we'll just hope the danged thing decides that I'm not a very hospitable host and stays away! [
