    kitchen remodel nightmare!!!!

Anybody out there ever use one of the bigname home improvement stores to remodel in your home and have an absolute horror story?

I am fighting with one company right now that my parents contracted to a kitchen remodel (my mother dreamed of doing this for YEARS) in March of 2006--the job was to take six weeks.  Well, it's almost one year later and the job is still not done. For the most part, the job had to been done completely over because it was so bad.  But the worst part of all is that my mom died  from lung cancer in October of 2006 and never got to see her dream kitchen  finished.

For my dad's inconvenience, the company wanted to give him a $150 GC.  An insult and slap in the face in my opinion.  I (because I have been in charge of the remodel since my mom passed) contacted this company's coporate office and they are stonewalling me.   I am at the point where I filed with the BBB.

This is such a personal issue for me and it is making me so mad I could spit nails.  Anybody ever been through this and what did you do? Any suggestions out there?

No suggestions, but my Mom had to wait forever to get her new windows installed...I'm thinking it took close to a year and lots of phone calls.  For the most part, they use local contractors, so I'd go through them before the box stores.

I would talk to someone (attorney) about the loss of use, the stress and the cost.  I definitely would not settle for $150 gc.  Have you thought about even small claims court to cover some of the cost without having to pay more to recover?

I am so sorry and my deepest sympathy in the loss of you mom....

Yes, unfortunately it's too late for that.  You live and you learn on these things...It was a nice neat little package, so to speak.  Since my mom was ill at the time and dad was mostly taking care of her at the time, it was a lot easier to go and have it done by one place rather than what probably would've been a lot more legwork.

Thank you for your kind words...

Unfortunately, I don't live in the same state so I'm trying to do as much as I can from 1500 miles away.  I would rather not put my dad through small claims or a lawyer if I have to, it's just something I don't want him to have to deal with and I doubt he'd want to go that route, my dad's too much of a softy.

I, on the other hand, can be a real pain in the @ss......a lot like my Mom and proud of it!

I stuck it to The Man!!!!!!!

After 8 months and tons of *itchin' on my part,  they finally settled and gave us EXACTLY what we wanted...My mom would be proud![;)]
