Any migraine and/or tension headache sufferers?

    In addition to the feverfew, DH has also been using MigraSolve Petadolex, which is a butterbur mixture. He thinks that's really been helping too. He's still on that Topomax, but is going to PCP to wean off it. The herbs have cut his migraines from 9 or 10 a month to just 4 last month, and those weren't very severe either, in fact, I didn't even notice he had them.

    Does feverfew help for tension headaches?

    I rarely got headaches until I encountered the stress of churning out a thesis in under a year. I was getting mild headaches on a daily basis, but nothing I took for them helped. I had a little success with an Ibuprofen/codeine over-the-counter pill, but only sometimes.

    They went away for a little while, but when I started living in LA, they came back in force. I experienced headaches that went for days. I had one that went for 9 days. Being in a foreign country, I couldn't really go to the doctor, and I discovered to my despair that you can't buy codeine over the counter in America. HOW DO YOU PEOPLE SURVIVE WITHOUT CODEINE??? I tried all the pain killers I could get my hands on, but nothing helped. The worst one was when we were flying to Vegas. Every odd sound, every unusual smell, every bright light made it worse. They kept us on the tarmac for 90 minutes, which to me was 90 minutes of hell as I tried to deal with the agony in my head. When we finally got to the hotel in Vegas, I'd switched off long ago and my boyfriend basically had to remind me to put one foot in front of the other. The headache went away overnight, but the following day I felt like I'd been hit by a bus.

    I still get them since I've come home, but if I take something with codeine in it before it gets really bad, the headache usually goes away. I've got some prescription drugs for it, now, but I've only tried them once and they made me feel pretty sick. I'm just thankful the headaches are normally mild ones.

    I have horrible headaches.  Since I can't take asprin, I found Advil Migraine has been the best for me. I have a MRIs and blood test out the wazoo but they don't know why I have them. I'm  most likely going to a neurologist too.

     dh has been whining about them not being available here for awhile now. i'm dissapointed myself since codeine is one thing stronger than regular tylenol and ibuprofen that i can actually take while nursing [sm=angry.gif]

    I get on average seven migraines a month, my last being this past thursday. I have so many triggers it's impossible to avoid them all. Even walking through the auto section of a store has been known to trigger me, water up my nose in the shower will trigger me. I start getting those early signs, vision goes wiggy, stiff neck, pressure on the bridge of my nose, saliva dries up. I know in a few hours or the next day I'm going to get slammed hard. I can't tolerate medication so I just have to ride it out. I had a new prescription for eye glasses two weeks ago, the prescription is off because I was coming off a migraine just before the appointment. When my glasses came in a week later I couldn't wear them for a couple days because my eye muscles were so sore from yet another migraine. It's endless. It always feels good to know there are other people out there that understand this. My eye doctor wanted me to go to the doctor & get a blood test than see a neurologist. Not sure how much they can do though. My eye doctor (retired neurologist) said migraines aren't understood well enough, there's not much to do but to tell people around you to leave you alone in the dark. No light, sound, touch, smell. He did tell me to keep slightly elevated, that's supposed to help. Mine leave me crippled for 12+ hours, it's tough to tune out of the world for that long. No choice really though is there?

    I get both tension headaches and migraines and have ever since I was a teenager.  My migraines are mostly hormone related but can be triggered by fast barometric pressure changes and severe changes in sleep patterns (too much sleep especially does this to me).  When I fly I can guarantee I will get a migraine as well as at least one a month related to my cycle.  If the weather changes a lot that month I can count on a few more.

    I have tried numerous prescription drugs some with no success and some with mild to moderate success but WITH side effects I don#%92t like.   I don#%92t know why exactly the things I do work, but here are some of the things that I find work for me:

    *Caffeine
    *If I need to take pain meds then a combination of 1 Advil, 1 Excedrin tension (has caffeine and Tylenol but NO aspirin since I can#%92t take it) and 1 benedryl
    * lots of water
    *eating a hamburger or something that is high protein
    *a HOT shower for 20-30 minutes (all hot water works best for me, but most people feel cold or a combo of hot and cold works best for them)
    * a post shower nap in cool, quiet and dark room
    *and believe it or not for some people the LAST thing they should be saying is “not now honey I have a headache”.  While sexual activity actually can induce severe headache or migraines in some people, it also can be used as an effective treatment.
