At least debate on here is reasonable.  Most of the political discussions I get into in RL are with my dad, and although I love the guy, sometimes I think a political debate with the cat would be more productive.....

I agree. And I think this is one of the great things about our country. We have the ability to civily debate ideas.

one day i was watching a presidential address with my stepdad , dont remember the topic, but i commented on disliking bush and his actions. a few days later my mom told me i had no right to disrespect the president around my stepdad and he had said something to her about how unimpressed he was with my "unamerican" comments.  i was stunned, having the right to my opinion couldn't be anymore american......i think my parents live in a mindset that use our laws more for looks than use, like the good china you dont use.

I have to be very careful about what I say in front of my stepdad when it comes to the war in Afganistan.  My stepbrother is a special forces officer there and if we start talking about it my stepdad just gets this look on his face..it just breaks my heart....

So being a good public speaker makes you a good leader?

Do you know who WAS a great speaker?  Hitler.  He was an amazing public speaker.

"True, they've not been pleased with us in the past"
If 3,000 dead on 9/11 is what you consider "not pleased" I'd hate to see what you feel would rise to the level of "really pissed."

Personally, I would much rather put money into defending this country than on sending welfare checks out to people who are then remodeling their homes, and giving out food stamps to mothers who refuse to quit their $150+ a month smoking habit or sell their HORSE in order to buy food for their children.  But that's just me.

I'd rather send out welfare checks and food stamp cards to the bums of this country.  Why?  At least OUR citizens are living off of the country, rather than the citizens of a country that hates our guts.  It's a matter of choosing between the lesser of two evils.

Just because my party doesn't want to invade other countries for absolutely no reason and waste billions of middle class taxpayers' dollars, does not mean we are weak on terror.  Republicans have no plan for Iraq, so they resort to labeling the Dems as softies.  How sweet.

In a dictatorship, there is no waiting for congress or political polls or dealing with voters. A dictatorship may not always be right but it certainly isn't slow. Modern examples of a dictatorship, Iran, pre-war Iraq, Cuba.

As for wire-tapping, it happens, whether it is legal or not. Let me trot out a well-worn phrase. Nixon's only mistake was that he got caught doing what all presidents do.

What is ONE good accomplishment of the Iraq war

Kurds and other populations are no longer a victim of genocide as they were under Saddam Hussein, who travelled surrounded by women and children so that no one would take a shot at him. Kuwait can breathea sigh of relief. There are many americans working in Kuwait. Iraq is getting an up-dated power delivery system and modern plumbing. Their roads are being re-built. Women have rights.

People in Iraq can now vote what they want their government to do.

How can those be considered accomplishments when the beneficiaries want us to leave?  Ungrateful attitudes towards the U.S. are common from these liberated Iraqis, which irks the living crap out of me.  We've spent our tax dollars on liberating them, updating their power systems, plumbing, and rebuilding their roads.  Then, they blow it up and we build it all over again.  Stupid.  I'd be thrilled to help them if they were grateful.  Since they're not, I feel no pity for them.  A poll was conducted of Iraqi citizens, and the majority want us out.  I agree with them, but such an attitude should not come from THEM.

And their government cannot do anything, seeing as how the country is run by the insurgents.  Ninety-six U.S. military personel have died this month, with nearly 3,000 total since this ineptly planned war began.  That being said, I cannot see any accomplishment whatsoever.  I'm blinded by the carnage, destruction, and complete waste of billions of dollars.
