You guys are the greatest! I just want to say, Pointer Rescue is very sensitive to the foster family (they are the backbone of our group!) You DO have the final say in the adoption. We list the dog on our site and reccomend him if he is a good match for a particular family. We take into account the dogs needs and the families needs and go from there.
I've been with PRO for almost two years now and I have done numerous home visits. Some of these homes you just would not believe how wonderful they are. I wish one of them would adopt me! They go through an initial screening (vet reference and phone interview) and then a home visit. That is when the foster family talks to the potential adopter.
I've fostered for another group that didn't do home visits or much screening and that is how I ended up with my second dog, Emma. In their denfense, the shelter where they pulled dogs was truly horrible and their only goal was to get them out of that awful place and wish them the best. PRO is much more strict and structured.
To get a dog adopted, people like to meet the dog, so if you want to help get dogs out of the shelter and into homes, take your foster with you as much as pssible and meet people! You could also make flyers to hang in stores and parks with the foster's picture. Attend events where rescues are invited and talk talk talk your head off to people looking to adopt. Lots of people want a rescue dog, but don't want to go to the shelter. That is where the rescue comes in, you can find a dog all the while knowing he is safe if you don't take him. And if you do take one, you know that you are freeing a safe spot for another dog.
We get so many pictures and letters from families with their new dogs telling us how happy they are. It is a great feeling, addicting too!
Good luck to Garrett and Paul and from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!!
