Pictures over the Internet

but I also believe there is a lot of BS going around the Internet,,,I sure hope this is one of them!!

Dyan, the part about AOL releasing the information is definitely true, they've issued a formal apology and have removed the link to the file, but by then it was too late as a bazillion mirror sites had been set up so there is still access to it.  And I feel pretty confident that the article claiming to have been able to identify one of the users is true as well.

holding my daughters hand and walking with her anyplace public

I see a difference, though, because you taking a walk that one time is subject to whomever else was there at that space and time.  There are a finite number of witnesses to that event, unless someone took a picture of it.

The internet allows people to see what you said/did for weeks, months, years later.... ie, the traffic/witnesses that see the equivalent of you "walking with your daughter" on the internet (posting pics, telling personal stories, sharing personal information) is potentially thousands of times greater than those who witness you in public streets.

I'm guarded, but not insane about photo sharing.  Like most things, I judge and balance my risks and take those I'm willing to accept potential consequences for.  [:)]

I meant to add in my earlier post that I fear no one, if it only concerns myself. However, I do not post pics of my wife. For one, she doesn't want her pic on the web. Two, security. In 1989, she testified and sent to prison a guy who had committed aggravated attempted sexual assault on her. And this wasn't his first time. Her testimony put him in prison, her victim impact statements at his parole hearings kept him there for a long time. Eventually, though, his crafty lawyer managed to get a parole hearing before she could be notified. So, he was paroled to a halfway house, (at the other end of the state) and wore an ankle monitor. Then, he was moved to a secure facility, which is a halfway house that is locked down at night. Then, he went back to prison ( probably violated his parole.) Anyway, the incident was way back when, we live up in north Texas with my last name. But I would rather keep her face a secret for her sense of security.

The internet can be a very scary thing! Me myself  I have had some people that have gotten so attached to me that I have gotten stalked. (That is why I no longer  get too close too people on here)  When I first got on here I had a ball and told all!!  I just did not know any better...

So it is very scary. But yet I still post my pic  you can't end your life or shareing your life with others just over a couple of crazy people!!

If people have nothing better too do but bother me in my life then go for it!

You are for sure not going too find anything very intresting that you want too stick around for!!

Infact if you are  my family or friends you most likey going too want too run away lol

But then again people get so quickly attached with people on  here that they feel that they know them, When they really do not!  It can be very very scary!! (And most people think well it will not happen too me but it can!)

But that is life and that is this world now!!  And the way that things goes. You either fall for it or you don't...

I just need too add the person that stalk me was someone that I  had talked to was  for over 6 months and I felt that I knew them.

That was where I went wrong! Even the people you think you are friends with on here can and some times WILL DO YOU WRONG!!

And that was where I went wrong the peroson that I was talking too was someome totaly diffirent then who I was talking too over the internet.

And even what I told them was something that I did not think that they would really know where I  Lived  BUT TRUST ME IT IS NOT HARD TOO FIND OUT!!

You have too remember that your fingers can type anything that you want them too type.  And it does not always mean that it is the trurh!!!!

Well, that last is my point. And gee, sorry you had a bad experience, but you are still here and seem to be fine, so all's well that ends well, right?

Like I said, I've been online since BEFORE the internet, and nada, no problems. Perhaps you did let too much out, Chris?

Ron, I can see why your wife shouldn't have her picture online. Good idea, imho. Common sense can go a long way to keeping you safe.

If it makes YOU feel better to smudge the eyes go right ahead and do it. Don't listen to anyone else...go with your instinct. YOU will feel better and YOU will feel safer. That is what seems to be the important part to me.

If the amount of junk mail I get (both e-mail and snail mail) is any indication, everyone on the planet already knows who I am and where I am anyway.[:-]
