romeoharley,
I start obedience training of sorts as soon as a puppy/dog comes into the house. I started working on "sit" whenever he was going to get a treat. He knows it now. We're working on down from a sit. Right now the butt is popping up when I try to lure him down with a treat, so he ends up doing more of a play bow. So, I started rewarding that with the cue "bow". Hey, after only 2-1/2 weeks here he knows his name...and for the first week he was called Pumblechook. I think he's doing just fine! I'm also doing mega socialization. I don't want to end up with an arm pit pirranha!
I've also clipped toenails twice, and cleaned his ears. Both of those are going to be important, because their nails grow so fast, and this guy's ears seem to get a lot of waxy buildup. Of course we're working on housetraining too. He gives a pretty clear signal that he has to go (lots of sniffing), but he's so darned fast about it that sometimes I can't scoop him up and get him out fast enough!
They ARE fun, aren't they? Both the pug and the chihuahua are big dogs in little packages, and I love it.
