    Rollie pollie Gizmo

Could not help myself, I had to take this pic. I was just watching TV when look over and see Gizmo all roll up into a ball, like she's a hedghog or something.[:)]

Very cute. Gizmo looks a lot like my Rocky pup. His mama is slick coated and almost prickeared. I bet Gizmo goes straight back to McCallum lines. LR Alexander, which McCallum dogs are outcrossed to a lot, often throw, ahem, edgy females.

I had a little (OK, BIG - 52 pounds and 23" tall!) female who used to curl up in a ball like that. She also sucked a "security blankie" - a fleece throw she claimed as her own and honest to goodness got really antsy if it wasn't in her crate. [8|]

I would love to know wher Gizzy came from, to think she may be part of a great bloodline... but with her HD and other genitic set backs...well.. who knows...[8|]

Yep, she has her crate blankie also, she will not let that blakie leave her crate. The secound she see it out she drage it back in.

She stayed rolled up in that ball for almost an hour. Her head was fully tucked in under her arms but when she heard me grab my phone she lifted her face just enough to peek out with one eye.[:)]

Well, the sad thing about BCs is that genetically they fall apart rapidly once you take the "work" out of the breeding. It's a delicate balance that holds them together. Not that they are an unsound breed - quite the opposite. But that soundness comes from very focused breeding practices - the extremes that make up the BC don't mix well if they aren't carefully balanced in each generation. They have super lax hips, for instance, to allow for a high degree of flexibility. But they combine that with very sound joints and super strong connective tissue and muscles out the woo ha. But if a malformity slips through you can go from "excellent" to horrible in just one generation.

Gizmo has to be related to Trim - and to my Rocky. The BC world is an awfully small one and family lines are so strong. Check out the pics of Rocky and see whether you don't see the resemblance! Here's a pic of Trim - she's rough coated and tri so it may be hard to tell, but her mother was speckley, bi colored, and split faced like Gizmo.

Head shot - kind of a weird angle but the only one I've got

And a typical one of her and her daddy dearest, who was largely responsible for her lovely temperament:

Thanks so much brookcove for that info. Yes, she does look very much like all the dogs you posted. I looked up the McCallum dogs and was so surprised in the similarities to my Gizmo.

I had really questioned if Giz was a BC at all, but now I'm almost certain she is. Her tail is what really gets me, it curls over her back more like a spitz but her personality is very much BC other than her bit of aggressive spouts.

Here is the best side view I have of her,
