Maureen, that's a heartbreaking story. To think of how scared the dogs must have been is awful. I hope they were soon unconscious due to smoke inhalation so they didn't suffer any longer than necessary.
When I was young, a boarding kennel close to my hometown had a fire and not all the dogs survived. I didn't even have a dog then, but I remember the story really shook me. It stuck with me always, and to this day it's one of the many fears I have about boarding a dog. The kennel we used for years with Tonka was very small and had a sprinkler system, so that gave me great relief. But they retired and closed their business. We've researched other kennels near us, but most are older and/or large, and none have that safety feature.
My heart goes out to all the dog owners who had to be notified with such tragic news. So very sad.
