Glad to hear you got thru the blizzard okay, Kate. I heard something on the news this AM about more harsh weather due to hit the northeast . . . I hope it's not too bad for all the people barely digging out from a few days ago. My Mom ended up with only 8 inches, and she had no trouble getting to work on Wednesday with clear roads, etc.

I typed much more than the above in my post, but for whatever reason only the first paragraph showed up. I noticed things were wacky as I was typing, but thought it was just my keyboard being weird. Seems like yet another problem on this forum format. I won't bother retyping it all -- I just commented on the awesome sunny and warm weather we had here, expressed relief at finishing my 1099s this week, wished everyone a good weekend, and gave the Patriots a big cheer!

Blech.  Been snowing alllll morning and then when that goes away, temps will drop to sub zero......happy birthday to me.  Right.

Is it your birthday today, Glenda? Happy Birthday! I'm sorry the weatherman ignored what you put on your gift list. My suggestion is to console yourself with a big piece of chocolate birthday cake! If I could send you some of the sun and warmer temps from here, I would!

Jackie that is too funny about your sister's granddaughter. Loved the story. Happy to hear that things are going pretty good for Charles. Have you started your PT yet Glenda. Sorry about the sadness you had the other day, Michaels birthday. Didn't get a chance to post before now. I still have the hives and went back to the doctor and on another week of prednisone. Prednisone has never bothered me too much, as far as wanting to eat everything in site, so that's good anyway. Now that I've said that, I'll probably start on an eating binge. Think I'm probably going to see an allergist. They are going to set up an appointment for me anyway, and I can always cancel if I want. For one though the doctor thinks it might be a good idea to get tested on the various antibiotics , since I've so many on my list. Things may have changed  and at this point they don't have a lot that they can give me if I need some. Going to be getting some real cold temperatures tonight and for the next couple of days. Think that's what they said....  -13 tonight and that's not including the wind chill. I filled up all of the bird feeders tonight so they will have food out there early in the morning. We had 3 male cardinals and a couple females today. Have quite a list of different birds.

Cold, no snow yet-but it is coming.

Bought a piece of granite yesterday.  An indoor showroom with slabs graded 1 through 7.  There is some beautiful stone out there.  We saw one slab that was about 7000 dollars.  It looked like an abstract painting of a woodland.  Not the one we picked.

Trying to work Sky on a bomb proof recall now.  He ignored me yesterday and played in the street.  That will not happen again.  Too many pictures through my head at that moment..  He does seem to be getting "heel" while on a leash, but squirrels still get him going.   "Leave it" is coming on strong.  I had Piper trained to ignore bunnies, and with the exception of Rocky, she didn't bother much with squirrels.  But she was a wonderdog, and it did take a while to train her.

Going to see a play tonight at Mankato State.  "Assassins".  A musical about historic assassins.  They had cast members to a gun range to learn proper gun handling techniques.  The musical aspect leaves me curious, but the extreme liberal  lean of the college makes me wonder if entertainment gets lost in social meaning.  I find that plays that have won awards  for social relevance tend to be not very  entertaining.   "Kiss of the SpiderWoman" left me feeling disappointed, and some of the other award winning shows have caused me to snore or leave.

Yes, indeed.  I turned 61 yesterday.  That doesn't make me feel old as dirt until I SEE it written on medical records!  Then my first thot is "that can't be ME"!

I had the eval on Monday and start PT Monday coming.  If the world ever thaws!  We've warmed up to only a windchill of minus 17!  And tomorrow nite, 8 inches of snow are headed our way.  Sigh.

Gosh, I can only imagine the images in your mind, Doug.  Sky will learn in time.  Sounds like you're making some good progress with him.

Happy Belated Birthday Glenda. I understand how it takes certain things for us to sit back and say..wow, that can't be. With me it's when my girlfriend and I talk about how long we've known each other. We met when we were 12. She turned 62 in Jan. and I'll turn 62 in July. This year makes it seem even worse with it being the big 50 since we met.

Doug that must have given you a good scare. There is an excellent video The Really Reliable Recall by Trainer Leslie Nelson. You should be able to find it and order it at www.dogwise.com Site was slow for me but well worth it in order to get that video. Sounds like she's doing pretty good though and It does take time. I think we sometimes forget the training period and just remember how great our other dogs were.

OMG!!  I made beignets a short time ago, and they are soooooo very good!

DH and I were talking last night about punchkees (which I know I've spelled wrong) and their history.  These are a very dense polish pastry that gave Catholics a way to use up milk, eggs, sugar, stuff that would be avoided at Lent, before lent started.    The only ones I've ever tried are from one of the grocery chains, so my opinion is based on those....they are about the size of a soup bowl...both circumference and thickness, very heavy and filled with (IMHO) two sweet fruit fillings.  DH mentioned that these were being compared on one site as similar to beignets.  It has been absolute years since I've even thought of beignets, and haven't had one since we left the Gulf Coast of MS, less than an hour from N.O.  But, I remembered them as light as air, melt in your mouth pastries.  To my delight, I found a recipe and all I can say is they MUST have these things in Heaven!

I warned DH in advance, that he'd have to man the powdered sugar bag while I did the frying, so it was sort of a joint effort.  I sure don't recall them being THAT good, or I would have been making them for years.  So, here's a tip of the hat to MIL, who absolutely LOVED beignets!

I suppose since my kitchen looks like it's totalled I should go clean it up.......

Got a copy of "Really Reliable Recall". Downloads are great. As it is about 4 degrees F in the yard now, I may wait a day or two to start it. We do have Obedience class tonight. I have been working with "heel" this week. Without a dozen other dogs, he does just fine. Little tugging, watching my knee, turning well and stopping. Doesn't like to sit when we stop, but that ground is cold.

Again, the only ones I've ever eaten came from a regional chain grocery store so the real Polish might make absolutely yummy ones.

    But, beignets?  Sheer heaven!

I thought I had missed something--I couldn't see any of the posts after the first page! I used to get page numbers at the top of the page, but those are gone now. I had to click on the "Non Dog Related" link and I finally found page 2.

    OK--Go Patriots :-)

Beignets--YUMMMMM! I've never tried to make them, though. I might have to try. Happy belated birthday, Glenda!

More snow, sleet and wind here. Some of my student teachers have been in their classrooms just 4 days out of the last 9--and most of their schools are closed tomorrow, too. Though we love snow days, I know their anxiety is creeping up.

Tracy, I'm glad your Mom was able to get out and about OK.

I hope everyone is staying warm!

I have been having a hard time getting to page 2 as well.  Now I get notifications, which is nice, since it makes it really easy to see if anyone has commented on a thread I've commented on (which is pretty much just this one) but it is a challenge to actually get to see all the comments.

Mmm, beignets.  When we went to south last summer I took DH and DD to Cafe Du Monde for beignets, and they were fantastic.

Got a stand up desk at work.  It's nice, but it is taking awhile to get everything put where I want it now.
