    Monday 5-19-14

Nice weekend, a little cool on Saturday, but really nice on Sunday. Mowed the lawn, got basil and catnip planted. I'm still looking for a pear tomato plant. That's the extent of my gardening.

BBQ'd chicken yesterday - it was delish!

Nice to see RonnieO is home!

Went out with the guys on Saturday to watch the Preakness. Now I see that California Chrome may not run in the Belmont, a real bummer for horse racing fans.

Julie, I hope you've gotten the body farm stink out of your vehicle by now.

Glad you had a good weekend Tina. What's wrong with California Chrome that he might not run the Belmont?  I saw something about a nose strip that might not be allowed at Belmont.

I planted a flat leaf parsley a month or so ago.  It was doing well until this weekend.  It seems to have attracted about nine caterpillars and they were munching away.  I was going to get rid of them but looked them up and they're going to be black swallowtail butterflies.  Who needs a parsley plant when you can have butterflies? :) DH was all freaked that they'd get on the tomatoes.  They're on the other side of the yard from the tomato plants so I can't see them marching that far to eat the tomato plants.

I'm so sleepy.  I seem to say that all too often. :(  I woke up at 2AM and couldn't get back to sleep.

*yawn*  I'd love a nap already.

I didn't initially think about the smell you'd be bringing home, but it makes sense.  I hope it washes away easily.

We finally finished the dresser, and as promised here is a picture:

I had also gotten a wooden headboard off Craigslist that we painted white as well.  All that's left to do is Hannah's desk and it will actually look like the furniture goes together.

The dresser turned out great, Steph!

It's that nose strip. The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has rules about not allowing performance enhancing products, so I believe they are determining if the nose strip qualifies. I know many horses are given Lasix and/or Albuterol to prevent lung bleeding when they run. I don't see that this nasal strip would be any different, but I'm not a vet.

    Nice looking dresser re-vamp, Steph!

Not me -- you can find parsley in the grocery store, but butterfly sightings can't be bought.  Hopefully they'll stick around your yard a bit after they hatch (or morph, or whatever the proper word is)!

We're in the same club today, Jackie.  I struggled to fall asleep until nearly midnight, then woke up a little before 3AM and never fell back to sleep.  I'm relatively alert right now, but this afternoon will be another story.

Steph, that bureau looks amazing!  Just like one of those shows on HGTV where they completely re-do something.  You guys do great work.  If you lived closer, I'd hire you to re-do a couple pieces in our house!

I took a funny photo of Ruby last night.  I'll put it in the photo thread section.

Tina, I thought I heard on the news on the ride in that they've just decided that the nasal strip was okay for the race, but maybe I misunderstood.

    hey everyone!

we are at the beach so I will be taking a nap LOL

I am actually stunned at how tired I am, I am hoping I am less sleepy by tomorrow. I guess that being able to relax has allowed my body to remind me that I am tired.

The weather has been great so far, sunny and not too hot. Threatened to rain yesterday but it cleared off and was nice and cool this morning.

As he does every beach trip B has made at least a friend a day and his pointer pup came to visit on Saturday. Poor B was as tired as I've ever seen him yesterday, he even fell fast asleep on the beach - a first - he usually can't relax in all that stimulation. He's back to himself today though, we've had two long walks and he's played with a new friend and a 2 yr old lab who he loves already.

Having seen the struggles of some folks here to keep their dogs calm or playing nice I am reminded of how fortunate we are that being high energy has always been our worst behavior. He never makes a noise and is so tolerant of the noisy little dogs and their ignorant owners. More so than me who gets irritable when their nasty, noisy thing is in attack mode at my calm, quiet dog and they look at me like I have some horrible monster on a leash. I actually told one lady off this morning. Not sure of the specific puppy store designer mix she had but it was nasty and she gave me a dirty look as B still lying in the sand looked at it as it was in full freak out lunatic mode.

I can only admit that every where I go my distaste for small dogs grows. Their owners aren't high in my book either. I know this is unfair to the good ones but I don't see too many good small dogs and owners!

Kate Ronnie looks way too cool and I am so glad to hear that Mozey is psyched too! Lucky dogs.

I hope they let the horse run with it's nose strips. Clear passages are needed for breathing!

You may well have heard that, Tracy. I haven't seen an update, but then again, I have actually been trying to work!

In other news, Merriam-Webster has added "Yooper" as an official word to the dictionary. Michigan will now be known for someplace other than the bankrupt Detroit.

We were pretty impressed w/ how nice it turned out.  And can't beat the cost, the across-the-street neighbor was getting rid of it and said we could have it, and we had the paint left over from the bathroom.  All we had to buy was the hardware.

When (and who knows when it will be) we do Hannah's desk, I'm going to try to get the same hardware to help it "match"

One of the guys here was saying that they "ok'd" the nose strip.

The talk of plants reminded me, some of the grass seed we planted has started growing!  We may actually get a decent looking yard at some point.

i am a small dog owner and I must say I must be a good one, Ava is a doll when outside, never barks, loves everyone. :)  Thanks for letting the butterflies come out I've not sen one in years here. I love the dresser that was re-done.

Went for PT today,my insurance always paid before, not  now, :( 25.00 a visit and wanted me to come 3 times a week, I said i would not be back, soon I had two people talking to me about a smaller amount, I now only have to pay 15 for a visit and I'll be going 2 times a week, I think  I'll do it for about 3 weeks, I was impressed with the manipulation of my hand and wrist. I guess it pays to speak up sometimes.

Vivian, there are a lot of nice small dogs and good small dog owners like yourself.  I think the ones who are good don't stand out as much as the ones who are not. :) I'm glad you got the PT charge reduced.  Too bad they didn't offer you their best price up front.

my apologies Vivian, I was very angry and shouldn't have said as much. It was just that this morning was rather unpleasant in that there 7 small dogs none of which had responsible owners and the dogs were just not pleasant to be near and because they were either off-leash or on long flexi-leads they were allowed to be too near too often.

Bugsy has many small dog friends it's just that when out and about we more often than not have a negative experience.

    Please accept my apologies

    Karen

Boy, this was an interesting day.  Great weekend, until about 4 yesterday when I had to start the prep for the dreaded colonoscopy.....ya'll know what follows THAT.  Half yesterday, the other half at 5:30 this morning.  Since it was after 2AM when everything finally settled down, I didn't get much sleep.  Made up for that this afternoon though, between fatigue, fentanyl and versed!  Very nice afternoon nap!

The great news, is no little polyps so no repeat for TEN years.

It's been cool here the past few days.  Bright and sunny but on the cool side with some wind.  Even covered the tomatoes last night and brought in the herbs and the stuff I hadn't planted yet.

Saturday I cleaned out the front flower bed and mulched it good, then yesterday I did the other beds and got the tomatoes and garlic in.  Of course, I always plant basil between the mater plants......the handyman was supposed to come today to make some repairs and put new lattice on the end of the front porch.  I've got it cleaned and weeds gone and ready to plant, but he was a no show, so will wait until later in the week after he's done to put anything in that garden.  I couldn't have done a danged thing today anyway.....too deep into lala land!  But, it was such fun playing in the dirt this weekend!
