I miss Deb and her drinks, too (and I'm a light-weight!). I also miss everyone else who hasn't been around much since the format change -- Sandie, Lisa, Jen, Kate, and several others whose names are escaping me at the moment. I hope all is well with all the "peeps" and their extended human and canine families!
I had a busy weekend. My mother and our friend arrive tomorrow, so I did the White Tornado cleaning routine. Since we need both spare rooms to be guest ready, I had to tackle the room that is basically a storage room (with a twin bed in there somewhere). I had to find space for all kinds of large things that collect there: extra dog beds, old bed pillows, a huge yoga/exercise ball, empty boxes for future mailing needs, etc. My back was killing me last night after all the floor scrubbing, ladder climbing, and hauling of items up and down stairs.
Our local shelter had their first "Yappy Hour" on Saturday night. It was outside, and they had 2 playgroups in the fenced areas (one labelled for "dainty" dogs, the other for "rowdy" ones). My friend and I went together and DH came with Ruby in his own car in case he wanted to take her home early. We ended up staying for a couple hours -- it was really fun. They served a local microbrew, hotdogs, cookies, salty snacks, sodas, etc. They had a couple booths with canine massage, a mini-photo shoot, an animal "communicator," etc. Also some agility equipment to try (with supervision).
It was aimed at adopters and their dogs as a "reunion" of sorts, but everyone was welcome, so it was a big crowd -- much larger than expected for the first one. Ruby used to love playgroup there, but she wanted out within a few minutes --- finding us on the fenceline and trying to jump/climb it. It's weird -- she used to love romping with a bunch of dogs, but she seems to prefer just one playmate at a time now. But she ran the agility equipment we learned in June, and she got her photo taken. She got a little snarky with a couple dogs who got too close as we were mingling in the crowd, but DH moved her away and she settled down okay. She's not a dog we can relax with at events like that, but we were pleased she did quite well. Hopefully they'll do another one, but they may run out of dry season very soon!
