Monday chat

Jano - you're welcome! Glad to help out a little. Too funny about what Willa said. Kids say the silliest things sometimes.

Slogging through a mountain of paperwork and a million little tasks today.

Silly Willa!  I remember how exciting it was when I was a kid to get something addressed to me the mail.  Funny how that feeling goes away after you reach a certain age (i.e., when you have to start paying bills).  I guess I still feel that way when I get a box from Amazon (even though I know what's in it)!

Speaking of funny things that kids say -- my friend told me recently about giving her friend's little boy a birthday present.  I forget how old she said he was -- old enough to talk, but young enough that he isn't 100% clear on what presents are.  So, my friend hands him the box, wrapped in brightly colored gift wrap.  He holds it happily (without making any attempt to unwrap it) and says with great excitement:  "I got a rectangle!"  Big Smile

Jan, that reminds me that there is a bag of box tops on my fridge.

I had a kid tell me yesterday, while I was doing some testing and asked him to sort pictures into categories, that the members of the same category, "rhyme". He'd find one that went together, like the ice cream and pizza, gorilla and tiger, and he'd tell me all excited, "these ones rhyme." Umm... No, but you're right based on what I needed to test.

Saturday, I made Kraft Mac and Cheese for dinner, and my niece (2) when served it said, "I'm so lucky." I must be a great chef if I can do that with crap from a box.

Jen, that's actually kind of cool the kid thinks the paired items "rhyme."  Sometimes language and words can seem musical to me when they flow together really well (you know, like when you read something by a favorite author).  Maybe to that kid, when things seem to "go together," they have the same energy or vibe or wavelength, like an abstract kind of "rhyming."

Okay -- that sounds a bit loopy.  I've got to take a break and head out for some fresh air and sunshine!

Tracy, that's really interesting. My thought was that he had either A) just learned about rhyming words in school, or B) did not know the correct word (category or class) and so he applied the word rhyming incorrectly to describe things that go together. My guess is actually that it's a combo. He probably learned about rhyming words some time recently, and also didn't know the correct word to describe the relationship between the things I had given him.

I also just got the kid's brother as a client. The brother needs help even more than him.
