    Disaster averted (Bugsy)

It is awful weather here - pouring rain and mid-40's

The kind of weather that Bugsy LOVES to go outside and roam in so of course he kept asking out. We kept saying no and honestly we reverted to avoiding him. (which isn't hard as he can't do stairs yet).

Eventually DH caved and went out for a wander with him. DH head down, suited up in a goretex jacket with the hood up, trudging along, Bugsy at his side, tail wagging, oblivious to the weather and DH's plight. It was quite a sight.

Bugsy kept him out there for over 20 minutes. I was secretly laughing and watching from the warm, dry and toasty indoors.

I go greet both of them with towels. I carefully toweled off Bugsy because he usually gets way too excited about the towel and an insane game begins. It worked and he got only minimally excited.

Then we were inside, I was chatting to DH and then BAM! Crazy eyes!! Tail tucked!! Scooby scamble to begin!!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

More crazy eyes and a body taut and ready to zoom! (wet pawed, orthopedically challenged dogs should not zoom on slick floors)

DH & I talked in a monotone and moved ever.so.slowly. I instructed DH to very, VERY carefully walk to the treat area and put something in a kong. I instructed Bugsy to sit!  Down! Both of which he did but the crazy eyes remained, it was such a hysterical look he had but I couldn't laugh or all hell would break loose.

Still moving ever so slowly DH handed me the kong which I carefully laid down. And said OK.

Whew! He did pounce on it and he did run around the living room with it but he did not zoom.

We both had a good laugh afterward at ourselves.

Bugsy is one crazy dog. And he sure has us trained LOL

I just love Bugsy and his antics. Big Smile

I'm telling you, Karen -- I think Ruby and Bugsy were separated at birth.  I knew exactly the look and the stance you were describing.  And we've had to try those slow moving tactics to avert a zoomie disaster, too (without the worry of injuring a post-op leg!).  Rain doesn't always spark it (she's unlike Bugsy in that respect -- she dislikes walking in heavy rain).

Phew!  I'm glad it all ended well.  Sounds like it might be worth having a dozen stuffed Kongs on hand, ready to pass out as B's recovery continues!

Bugsy:  No scooby scrambles on slippery floors for a while yet.  Leave those shenanigans for dream sequences only when you're sound asleep!

ROFL I can well picture it!  Oh Bugsy, if only you knew how hard your humans work to keep you safe and happy!

Oh, Karen, life with Bugsy must be so much fun!  I love hearing about his antics.

ROFL!  Great job you two at keeping the zoomie monster from busting loose.  Have you considered horse hobbles?  Wink

I think most of us have seen that crazy eyed, coiled muscle, pre zoom look but when it's from your recovering surgery patient it's a scary sight until you have it under control.  All I can say is best of luck at keeping him in check for the next few weeks.

*Hands Karen and her DH some Clairol hair dye to cover all those new gray hairs*

Whew - I was getting nervous just reading about your near-missadventure ;). Kudos to you and your hubby for keeping the calm.

It was such a funny sequence and yes on many occasions we'd laugh and get out of the way but not now!! LOL

What was exceptionally funny is how the two of us were so cautious and measured about it - like two people trying to prevent a bomb from going off.

You all know that one of the things I love about him is his 'zoominess' but at times like now it is a powder keg waiting to erupt

Silly Bugs!! I'm glad you're feeling better!

I can totally picture Bugsy and you and hubby having to do what you did to abort the zoomies. We have a zoomie monster in our Corey, although he's only 36 pounds, so much smaller than Bugsy. So happy to hear things are going so well and hopefully you'll will continue to be able to keep those zoomies under control.

He/she who laughs first rarely laughs last: he dragged me out in the rain this evening after completely dissembling a toy and when we came in he was 'normal' and acted like he was going to curl up for a snooze. I dragged his bed from its daytime spot to the nighttime spot and he attacked the bed, got told to stop and ran zoomies as DH & I watched.

after I recovered I thought, "it's wonderful he feels this good" I stopped the tramadol today so he's only had rimadyl

When I read the first post to DH tonight, that was the same thing he suggested.  He has mentioned them for Ruby -- only half-jokingly!  Tongue Tied

I guess it was inevitable that the zoomie urge would only be temporarily contained today.  I'm sure your heart was stopping for a few minutes there, but I'm glad he's feeling well enough to zoom and that he didn't hurt himself in the process!

LMBO!  I'm totally in awe of your ability to contain the zoom.  I know THAT look in their eyes all too well.
