Twister and Gabby at the Coast

Twister and Gabby at the Coast

We stopped at Copano Bay first and Gabby decided she does indeed love the water.  :) Twister even swam a few times but mostly he tried to harass her when she came back.  He followed her off a small cliff one time and was in water over his head. Surprise He was trying to climb up the sandy cliff but the sand kept collapsing.  I reached down and snatched him out of the water.  He was looking a little panicked till he saw me reaching down to get him out.  Then we drove to Mustang Island and let the dogs run and play on the beach and retrieve sticks.  It was a great time for all of us.  The weather was beautiful.  We're so lucky to live just a few hours from the gulf coast.

Looks like loads of fun. No worry about sharks there?

Well, it is the ocean, so yes, there are sharks.  I do think about it when the dogs are in the water but the chances are so small that I'd hate to not enjoy the ocean for fear of sharks.  Before I watched the movie Jaws, I'd be out in chest deep water but now I'm too chicken even though I know the odds are much higher that we'd get in a car accident than get bit by a shark.  I usually don't go out any deeper than my knees. :)  Just in case. lol  The dogs don't go out very deep either, except Belle who has to be watched closely so she doesn't just start swimming out to sea.

You should have seen the huge alligator gar skeleton we found on the shore at the bay.  The head was at least 15" long and the whole fish was about six feet long.  Those are mean looking fish and they get huge and have wicked looking teeth.

There are very few shark bites reported along our coast.  You see people catching them quite often and they mostly waste them which makes me furious.  In some areas we also have alligators along the coast.  We also have a lot of portugese man of war jellyfish and their venomous tentacles are agonizingly painful if they touch you.  Luckily we didn't see any this trip.

Was it noisy while you were at the beach?  I mean, their mouths are open in every photo, almost!  Bark bark bark!  He he heeee.  Love that second shot with Gabby in the air, leaping in.

Glad you were able to easily reach and pull Twister up that sand cliff.  And it seems he was OK and right back in the water next chance, so all good.  They had plenty of fun, that much is clear!

It was noisy at the beach but not at the bay.  The only time they were barking a lot is the one picture on the beach when they're telling DH to "throw the stick!!"  lol  Twister barks when Gabby first goes in the water but then he waits in excited anticipation (close to shore, of course) for her to return so he can try and steal the stick.  Gabby has a stick in her mouth in most of the pictures and that's why her mouth is open. :)

The cliff thing freaked me out for a few seconds.  His little face was really worried when he was struggling to climb up and couldn't.  He probably would have been able to make it up but no way could I take that chance, not after I saw that worried face. The second I set him on the ground, off he ran to chase Gabby. :)   I'm not the type to panic but it took a minute or two for my heartbeat to return to normal.

I know chances are slim. There really are very few shark attacks worldwide. It's just that when they do attack it is very ouchy and deserving of media attention.

I wouldn't even see jaws when it first came out. Made me angry, as I figured people would go crazy and start slaughtering sharks for no reason and that is exactly what happened. Seems like that is how a lot of people want to handle any predatory animal.

Don't want to have a run in with a jellyfish either.

That looks like a great time!  Dori would be in heaven here!!

What great pictures!!! I'd have panicked too when Twister was struggling to get out. Thankfully they get over stuff like that faster than we do. Big Smile

Loved the photos! They look so stinking happy it's not even funny :) I'm jealous that you live so close to the coast!
