How is it that other leash reactive dogs can stay calm but she can't?

You're not alone Julie - truly, you're not. I think it's a lifelong work in progress. I also think there are some environments that are just so different that it brings out the worst. Sassy got so much better but there were still some places that just set her off. I'm sorry for a bad experience for you both. Don't take it personally and don't give up hope.

Julie, I'm sorry it worked out like that for you and Abbie.  Last time I took Belle to the vet she was good as gold right up until time to pay the bill.  The waiting room was full of dogs and she was sitting nicely and not being a jerk.  Then a guy walked in with a youngish dog and Belle decided she needed to lunge and growl at this particular dog.  The dog was at least twenty feet away and other dogs were closer.  I never saw the other dog throw out any sort of behavior or signal that might have set Belle off.  I was plenty embarassed since this was my first visit to this clinic and when she decided to act like Cujo everyone was staring at us and inching away. Embarrassed I was able to calm her down by feeding her treats but I walked out a different door to avoid passing too close to that dog.  Belle will always be a dog that needs constant training and reinforcement with her dog reactive behavior.

I am so ready to go home.  I haven't felt good all day and I sent DH an email saying I don't feel up to date night.  He'll be mighty disappointed but oh well.

Aw Julie.  I'm sorry too.  You know that Sheba was an absolute angel at home and a royal bearer of the name of a female dog in public!  Ongoing challenge.  I hope you get there with her.

It is 5:34 and I'm FINALLY calling it a day.  However, the boss wants me to help out tomorrow at the Apple Squeeze Festival, so.......

Pan seared sea scallops for dinner tonite.  Maybe a glass of wine and a bubble bath as a reward for the week!

Julie - what about a variety of treats for the gift basket? We even have places around here that do gourmet dog treats and some are super cute. Since I seem to be buying treats every time I turn around, I know I'd appreciate it.

I like this idea, too.  Maybe add one of those "bags on board" things that attach to the leash and some rolls of poop bags.

I'm really loving this weather we're having - chilly mornings and nights and warm, balmy afternoons.  I'd wish for it to stay like this except for the fact that I know how much we need rain. Now I'm getting anxious to get Halloween decorations up!  I hope I can wait at least until the end of September. Smile
