Collar or Harness?

• Collar or Harness? rose white Posted : 7/17/2006 3:17:38 PM I just bought a Harness from a online store.  I have tried to put it on to my little 2 year old doggie.  He looks feel pretty comfortable with it but how come I don't see a lot of people using harnesses on the street?   I used to use collar too but .. the price from that store was just too good to resist, only $3.99.  Anyway, please let me know the pros and cons.  Thanks for replying. • marynh Posted : 7/17/2006 3:21:03 PM when we leash walk Molly I put a harness on her - she hates it but such is life. I always used harnesses...I find it easier to walk the dog with them on. • tina robinson Posted : 7/17/2006 3:28:07 PM I don't walk tonka on a harness because I used to let them pull sleds and wagons so he wants to pull when in harness, I do use one for Ruffian now because of her age she has no interest in pulling now, and I will sortly be using one for Tonka too I feel the pull is leaving him as well. I've been using no-pull harnesses with Russell since he was a few months old (so, about a year now). I really like the extra control of the harness and not having something around my dog's neck. But now that his coat has gotten thick, the harness started causing horrible matts around his armpits where the harness straps go. It got unmanageable so this past weekend we switched back to a flat collar. I worried he wouldn't adjust well, and also that he'd go back to pulling. For big dogs, as Lizzie Collie said, it will only make it easier for them to pull you. So personally, I think harnesses for small dogs and collars for big dogs (with exceptions of course, one being the "easy walk" harness for pullers).
