Calming Signals

Cool, that's really fascinating.  Now that you all have mentioned it, I can pick out scenes where my two dogs, particularly Bear, uses calming signals.

One thing though, sometimes when Bear and Zoe fight, Bear will back off and then raise his paw to touch Zoe's face.  Is that a calming signal too?  Zoe is the Alpha, by the way.  [:)]

That's a chow thing, trying to make nice.  Willow just did that to DH the other night after she growled at him.

Oh cool, I didn't know that at all.  It looks really cute sometimes, like he's petting her!

Come to think of it I just saw Grady use some with Miss Molly.  Tonight was the first real night they tried to play.  Grady was being his usual in your face boy.  He was trying to play with Molly.  She was nervous abou it.  Grady used the paw to her nose.  Now that I think about it he was saying "relax, kiddo, I just want to play wif you".  VERY exciing to realize this.

I'm assuming the book you're referring to is "On talking Terms With Dogs, Calming Signals"??
