You should ask what the breeder was feeding the dog, how much and how often and stick with that. Or, what the shelter or foster home was feeding.
If that's not possible, then the answer is, some dog foods have puppy stage foods and some have all stage foods. For example, Innova kibble is for all stages of life, puppy on up. Purina is not, it has a puppy chow.
I don't know what type of dog you have, but if it is a large breed dog, then it's important to feed it a high kcal puppy food, or it will be starving all the time as it grows.
