The badsenjis live in rolled leather collars with their tags on it.  To go out, they have a soft nylon martingale collar with matching leash.  (green for the brindle, blue for the tri-ing.)  They also have a different wide martingale (with beads, gold thread trim, etc) that's attached to the leash for their therapy visits.  Brindlewonderkid also has another martingale/lead in one unit that he uses for agility.  (They also have a few coursing slip leads, but we haven't done that in a while.)

The malinois doesn't have quite the wardrobe the basenjis do, but she has a nylon everyday collar and a safety choke collar by Bluegrass collars/leads for walks.

Toby wears a harness when we're out for walks or just out in general. At home, he is harness/collar free.  He wears a harness called a buddy belt.

I use a flat collar when bathing (I do it in the yard) and a harness for walks. Mika is collar/harness free when she's indoors.

I use a flat collar with Dasher most times, or I also use a slip collar when we go to agility class.

What is the idea behind the martingale collars?  Is it just so they don't slip off, or is there some traing reason behind it.

Also, I have seen lots of people who do obedience and stuff that use a choke collar, but I was always under the impression that choke collars are no good.  What is the benifit to them?

Sorry for all the questions, it seems that it's hard to get a straight answer on collars....
