Skin on paw peeling

• Skin on paw peeling Minty_Pups Posted : 6/26/2006 7:18:46 PM Hi, yesterday I just found that the skin on my pomeranian's paw is peeling.  In the 4 years that I've had him I've never seen this happen.  There hasn't been any changes in diet, activity, or in the environment, so I have no clue what is causing this. The skin is only peeling on the big meaty pad, not the individual "finger" pads, and only on his front paws.  It's almost like when we don't lotion our skin and it peels.  The skin underneath feels soft, kind of like a puppy's paw.  I've clipped off some of the skin that was hanging off so he won't rip it on something.  He's still walking normally, but I've kept his walks short to avoid hurting his new pads. My question is, is this normal?  Should I apply vaseline or something to his paws?  Thanks. Sorry If I yell but searously the vet is the only person who can treat your dog for whatever is going on. It could be as simple as somehing he steped on and pealed his skin or can be more serious like a nutrition defecieny. He might need some meds so it doesn't get infected or worsen. • Jamie Van Dusen Posted : 6/27/2006 2:05:23 PM My liitle guy who (supposedly) has pomeranian in him, scrapped off a layer of skin on his pad the other day. Could this be what happened to your dog? Within 2 days the little piece of skin fell off, there was never any blood, and it has since toughened up and he is fine. • jeano Posted : 6/27/2006 3:48:39 PM I've seen rough/peelish skin on the bottom of dogs' feet lots of time. Dry weather, lots of walking on concrete...I wouldn't fuss over it. Does he mess with it? If so thats a sign of discomfort. • Minty_Pups Posted : 6/28/2006 1:04:29 AM No, he doesn't mind it at all.  I checked again today.  His paws look better.  The skin isn't continuously peeling, just that one layer.  And the new pads are already starting to toughen up.  I hope it's nothing too serious... Cracked up laughing at her.
