Building a fence.

Ha ha!  People said the same thing about silver lace ... it's quite rampant and will take over anything.  (I was just happy to have something take over the fence! *laughing*)

I pulled out all my roses last fall... I don't let my dogs bite me, I can't see why I'd have flowers that bite! *laughing*

Huskymom, is there any chance that the owner/landlord would help with the costs?  After all, the fence will be a permanent improvement to his property and would be much appreciated if his next tenants have kids and/or dogs.

Well I have thought that maybe when I move out I will sell it to them.  At a reduced price of course.  If not I'll just take it with me.  They really like the idea of a fence so them will probably give me some money for it as long as it is done properly.

I have had my 6 foot  wood fence for going on 30 years and I have never coated it. I have had to replace pickets here and there from the kids knocking them out with lacrosse balls.

When it is time to replace it, I will be going with the vinyl fences, would love to see them made to look more like wood though.

maybe it is the heat and humidity in the south but anything here made of wood and left outside needs a good deal of upkeep. we have wooden steps out of our back door, and our house is only a little over a year old. i didnt put anything on the steps and they are already starting to crack and split. just my experience here as i have never lived any place else.

I agree cyclefiend...in my area any wood structures that aren't treated with some kind of sealant start deteriorating very quickly.  Our deck is about 12 years old and we've been putting a sealant on it at least every other year since it was built.  It still looks great.  My sister bought a house with a 5 year old deck that 's never been treated and it's in terrible shape.  The wood stockade style fences that people put up around here start warping within a year if they aren't treated and sections that face the north turn green from mildew.

Dubilpie, we put up a vinyl fence last fall and we love it.  BTW, did you know that I invented vinyl fencing?  Or at least I thought I did until my husband informed me that they already existed.  This was several years ago, and I thought I'd come up with the best idea...sigh, that happens with all my greatest inventions.[sm=rolleyes.gif]
