    Hiya Aussie!

My girl, Ixa, is a cattledog/chow/x mix. Here's some links for some pics of her:http://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=293300&mpage=1&key=Ixa񇦴

Have you ever searched "cattledog" on youtube? There are some hilarious videos! flicker.com also has a great cattledog photo collection.

Do you have any pics/videos posted of your pretty pup?

We're starting an agility class in a few weeks, and sheepherding this summer. Ixa's got a great personality, she's got a ton of energy on the trail, but she's calm as can be at home.

Look forward to learning about your pupper! [:)]

The dog in my avatar is Sioux, CGC, TDInc.  She is half Australian Shepherd.
Sequoyah is my little red merle Aussie - I lost the photos I had of her on my 'puter when it fried, but I just bought a new camera, so maybe soon I can post some of her.

Great looking dogs! Cattle dogs always look so intense! Are they really that intense or is it just their look? (I've never known a cattle dog personally)

    Aussie,

Your pupper is soooo cute! Pinkie nose and stunning blue eyes ... there was a cute one of her standing at the door that you had linked to when I peeked last night - love the markings on her back/butt. Yeah, my girl is very foxy/wolfie/caoyote-ish, depending ...

Sheepherding is at Jerry's Long Beach ring, right off a freeway off ramp, lol. Heard about him on Cesar Millan's show: http://home1.gte.net/jerstew/. This summer I'll take classes here: http://www.drummondranch.net/.

You'd be surprised how much herding there is in Los Angeles!

Ooh, and Dingo's gorgeous! Ixa would like that dog!

From the little I know, cattledogs can be intense, odd, serious, and goofy ... kinda like tricksters, if you know what I mean. And, hoo, boy, they are tooooo smart! [:D]

What are the particulars on australian shepherds?

Aussies are supposed to be reserved with strangers - I think my pup was born without this gene. He loves loves loves people in any way shape and form.

They are very smart too. I thought my husky was pretty smart but this aussie is putting my husky to shame. My pup can learn a new trick/command with 3 treats tops. You can see him thinking and trying to work problems out in this head and he'll pick up on commands just by watching my husky perform.

I'm not sure if this is true for all aussies but mine is all happiness. He is the happiest dog I've ever seen. He loves life and all he wants to do is make me happy with him. He's very sensitive (something that is supposed to be true with all aussies) so if I give him a stern voice he gets upset and comes to me with his ears back trying to make amends.

I haven't seen any stubborness or any sign of head strong, independent behavior. This is completely different from my other husky. They are worlds apart in that aspect.

So an aussie cattle dog mix will hopefully have all of these traits - intensity, happy, willing to please and very smart! And of course endurance.

I hope I did this right, never tried to load a picture.  This is my Jimi.  He is australian shepherd/cattle dog mix.  He is smart, hard headed and very energetic.  He's also quite the prankster.  Your pup is adorable

Ok, I'll bite ... tell us a few tales of pranks, please!!! [:D] He does look clever!

When we go to the park so they can run free, Jimi will hide down in the tall grasses and when my AmStaff least suspects it Jimi will pounce on him like a rabbit.  He also tries to herd my collie and staffie by nipping on the backs of their legs.

Toffee my foster is also part, if not all aussie. She is everything aussie that I don't know what would be her other mix if she had one. She is very shy around strangers but as hyper as can be and is a cuddle bear most of the time, very valeco to the ones he trust. She's very smart and learns fast. I don't know if she was already house trained when she came to me or if she just picked it up really fast, had a few accidents in the house but learned so quickly where her spot is. She still has a fluffy tail, it was never docked which I really like.

Here is a pic of her and also you can see her in my avie.

    Xebby,

Tofee is soooo precious! Is her fur deliciously soft?

My girls has yummy silky hair, I don't know if that's the ACD, the chow, or the X part of her.

They can be pretty full-on. Every second dog I know has a fair spattering of ACD in it. They like a lot of exercise but don't really need it as long as they're spending time with their favourite person. They have a well-deserved reputation over here for being snappy and potentially savage. I've heard some real horror stories - everything from bruises to disfigured faces and I know of a little girl who lost a finger to a poorly socialised cattle dog. Bring them up right, though, and you've got a bombproof dog who'd lay down its life for you. The only ones that turn nasty are the ones that aren't treated right. Treat them right and you'll never want another breed.
