    The papillon reunion...

I know there's a lot of papillon people on here (not surprised, they're awesome)  But we've never really had a thread.  So here's a thread where we can trade stories, etc.   So why did you guys choose papillons?

So if you have a papillon, speak up! What do you enjoy about this little breed?

Okay, for starters, your signature shot makes me giggle EVERYtime I see it.  It's too cute!!

Aspen found me.  He was a housesitting job.  I had never seen or heard of Papillon before that.  I've never been a small dog person but he wasn't a typical small dog to me.  He seemed to think he was bigger.  He even cornered a groundhog.  YIKES!  How to explain that your client's dog was mauled by a yellow-green toothed creature?  Anywho, one thing led to another & he became mine.
What's not to love about the breed?  I love their attitude, their spunk (Aspen does nothing slowly) & their snuggalbility (?)

Awww, gorgeous babies! I don't own a pap, but I just adore them.

Aspen, Brenya is saying BOW WOW, what a seductive look you got goin' on! [:D]
    • Gold Top Dog
Tanks, Brenya.  you got that saucy look yourself.  Wanna go racing around sometime?

Man, I just really looked @ his photo.  He looks so scraggly compaired to Lauren's show Pap.  Although no matter what I do I can't make his coat look fluffy like a real Pap.  [X(]

    Here's my little booger:

I didn't choose him - our paths collided and we ended up with each other. I love smart he is, and how perceptive he can be. Plus he's a great bed/chair/coat/sofa/floor mate. Once he's sleepy, I can plop him down wherever and he'll doze right off.

Ah, Courtney!  Our boys have something in common.  They look aDORable when laying on their backs.  Don't you just love their bunny toes?  Oh, kiss your booger boy for me.

Hehe thanks.  He went swimming and then promptly rolled around in the mud.  Then he had to get a bath and was very upset.  Silly boy.

what gorgeous papillons you two have!

We got our first papillon looking for a toy breed that wasn't too toy-like.  Papillons are so energetic and spunky little dogs, I agree, what's not to like?

So now we have Beau (keeping with you two's tradition of papillons on their back)

    and his little cousin Harold

I've met a lot of paps since then and they all have such great little personalities.  I'll admit, I'm addicted.

Awwwww.  I wanna rub some Pap bellies!!!

So Courtney & Lauren, how do you ladies keep your guys looking so good?  Do you use conditioners or something?  For example, Aspen has this tuft of dryish hair on top of his head.  I'm tempted to spritz it with some of my leave-in conditioner.  Not really but his hair does bother me.
    • Gold Top Dog
I've been using conditioner on Rascal after I give him a bath. He's been having some dry skin troubles lately (you can see how bright pink his skin looks through the hair), but heck in this weather I have been too! I've been giving him some fish oil and vitamin E supplements, but I'm honestly not sure if they're helping or not. I probably bathe him more often than I really "should" (I try to do no more than once a month, but sometimes he gets kind of grody and I bump it up by a week or so).

I love his feet... but I also don't love how he tends to pee on the backs of his front feet. This being my first male dog, I wasn't quite prepared for the angled flow problem!

Annie - your Aspen has a look in his eyes in that picture that reminds me exactly of my Rascal. Something like mischief, suspicion, cunning, and excitement all rolled up into one.

Lauren - those bath pictures are amazing. I actually saved them onto my computer because they crack me up each time I see them.

In the spirit of wet dogs, here's Rascal during bath time a year or so ago:

(btw the choke chain was never actually used. When my mother still had him she used to like to keep it around his neck for unfathomable reasons, even though he wore a halter when he went for walks.)

I was looking for a small dog, and happened to meet a friend's Pap and thought he was a very cool little dog. I went through rescue - and was looking at these young male Paps when the regional coordinator told me of this senior Pap she had at the moment. Well, he's been with us for almost two years now... here's 13 year old Zippy (from just yesterday):

Sorry for the squinties - the sun was very bright yesterday! He's such a fun little dog - and he doesn't take ANY junk from the Border Collies. He's such a noble little guy, too. His outlook on life is YAY!!, and he's always up for anything.
    • Gold Top Dog
Zippy is super handsome. I'm also jealous of what looks like the warm weather [:D]

Aw, thanks. Zippy appreciates the compliment! Well, if you call 45 degrees F warm, then I guess it was. lol Bright though - very sunny, even if a tad cool.

Over the weekend I met a woman who claimed to have trained a daughter of Kirby.  I will take that claim with a salt mine.  Anyway, she said that Kirby sired a daughter that is the same size as Aspen.  Aspen is HUGE for a Pap.  He's 15#, 16" long & a roughly 16" @ the whithers.  Okay, maybe he could sand to lose a pound or 2 but still he's pretty beefy.

Just wanted to say hello - new here.

We have two 10 month old paps (1 male, 1 female) and they are just like our kids. Never heard of a pap until about 2 years ago. Got one last summer, then we realized 1 just wasn't enough. These little guys are big dogs in a little body. Incredibly intelligent and loveable. In fact, I don't think we've ever seen more of a lover than our male. We are hooked!

Our male had surgery  1 week ago -he somehow fractured the ball (ball and socket) of his left hip joint. Just about killed me. Had to put him through an orthpedic procedure to correct it. The weekend was not good - however, he seems nearly back to his normal goofyness. Really healing quickly.

Absolutely in love with the breed.  They are the smartest, funny, loyal, endearing and challenging dogs.   I live with 2 boys, Burgee (conformation) and Cole (lap warmer) and do Pap rescue.
