Any Sheltie lovers?

Hey there! Well I am a bit upset as I was told by this horse breeder that  had a horse bred from two ugly parents who had a wee one that became a champion and that I should not judge a puppy from the parents!  They thought this was a good example.

Sheesh! Is this true?Well I am not looking for any champion dog, but if I have to pay out a lot of money for a dog, I expect it to have certain characteristics of the breed! Otherwise, there are plenty of Sheltie dogs out there who need a home that I could get for free and make him/her my companion for life...which is what I have always done.  I am dedicated to the breed.

I really want a shelti! I just love the breed but unfortunaly I can't house any more dogs till I move. My Gerogia doesn't live with me right now and Gizmo is very difficult to take care of with all her health problems (one more major surgery). As soom as I move I hope to get Georga back and hopefuly add anouther dog to my family, Right now I'm seriously looking into getting a shelti.

Hello I LOVE Shelties!  I have four dogs , Tipper my sheltie, Skeeter my westie, Pepper my cairn , and Jazzy my great dane.  Tipper came to me as sort of a rescue you may say.  A lady who bred pomeranians called to ask if i would like him because he inpregnated one of her poms and i could not pass him up as he had been obedience trained and i fell in love.  He is black white and tan.  He is truely the smartest dog i have met and so sweet tempered.  he is not a real barker until the terriers set him off  but i always enjoy waking up to his kisses in the morning

Hi TifferDawn! Aww, how sweet! Sheltie kisses! I love em! I have always been interested in Westie's too. Wondered how that breed is?

One of my Sheltie's is going to get his teeth cleaned this week and while under, they are going to do a rectal exam as he is having a lot of difficulty expressing his anal glands for some reason. And when the vet goes inside to do so every two months, Nikki literally howls and screams like a coyote! [8|]  Poor boy! It must hurt really bad because as a rule Shelties are pretty stoic.

My rescue Sheltie is so pretty, I can't imagine why he ended up needing a home!
Doesn't bark much, very smart, very active and he's taking to obedience training as if he's done it before.

We went to Rally match, and his first time ever - got a 2nd place and score of 96!
He is doing some Open and Utility obedience exercises and I look forward to learning all about Shelties. He works best with a light hand and clear directions.

I met a color headed white that is so beautiful, I might want one in a year or two.

Here's my Bobby with his very first match ribbon ..

Bobby is the first swimming Sheltie I've known. He actually swam into the lake to fetch a stick!

A dripping wet Sheltie is quite a sight!

Question: I've seen some Shelties whose ears tip, and some whose don't. What makes the difference? Is it in the breeding, or just the individual dog?

Ever since I was young (sometime after dirt came out, but before the wheel...lol) I thought I wanted a pair of shelties, "one day" when I had my own home with a fenced yard. Preferably a brother and sister.  Time passed. Had many dogs. Beagles, mutts, a purebred or 2, and currently a sibe. husky. I grew to realize  that while I am attracted to long haired, fluffy critters, it's always been about the personality more. Put wanting a sheltie out of my mind.

Now, I am >< this close to adding a member to my household.
I 've searched long, hard, online and in shelters, looking for personality and disposition first and foremost .  He may be "the" one.... we are to meet later this week.

And oh yeah....he's  a sheltie mix.  whooopppeeee.

Oh, I thought Shelties were void of personality, till I got one! It's much more subtle to people who don't live with him, but he's got it by the bucket full. Very charming, very funny!  It is mostly reserved for the chosen few, not like my retriever who is "personality plus" when she has an audience.. (rolling my eyes!)

Congrats on what is hopefully your new addition! Very cute!!!

I have a sheltie mix I got from the shelter about 4 years ago. She is about 6 or 7 now! I however do not own a pure bred sheltie. I have no idea what else my little girl is mixed with but she looks exactly like a sheltie so I don't worry about it!

Hello ud2be, I am not a breeder or anything. I just have taken in rescue Shelties for many years. However, I was told once by a breeder that you have to train the ears to tip.  Some are born with it naturally.   That was what I was told. [X(]

hey ud2be! I forgot to mention you have quite a beauty of a Sheltie there!

I may get a bi-blue or bi-black sheltie in the next couple of years unless I decide on a schipperke instead.
