Any Sheltie lovers?

Yes, I am a Sheltie lover.   They do tend to bark a lot but I don't like the idea of debarking a dog myself. 
 
They also have those collars for helping to stop the barking.  My neighbor has one on his Jack Russell terrier and it does seem to help some.

In January, I adopted a year old sable boy and he is just fantastic! Just love this silly sweet and rowdy boy! We are having a great time learning obedience and agility.
 
He's my second dog to train and hopefully will be my UD,TDX dog. Agility I do for him, but its not my favorite game.
 
We've only met in January and so far he's earned his CGC and is Rally ready, Novice by the winter shows. He's the smartest dog I've met... we are already doing signals and go-outs, and drop on recall!
 
I met a color headed white Sheltie and would like one to be my next dog!

Me too!   Altho I don't have one, they are wonderful dogs, my sister has one, a gorgeous tricolor.

I am really against de-barking dogs myself.  I got my recent Sheltie a year and a half ago...a wonderful female...only to bring her home and find out she had been de-barked and that that was what most Sheltie breeders did. []  My vet wasn't too happy about it as he is very against the practice.  Oh well. She can still bark, but it sounds more like a cough.  No matter. She, like every Sheltie I have had, is a great dog. They are so smart and clever. And those facial expressions! LOL   They have a way of looking at you to let you know you are the worst mom on earth! []
 
So happy to see others who love this breed as much as I do!

I love Shelties, but don't own one - maybe someday when I'm too old for Aussies LOL!  My training assistant has two, and they are great little dogs.  Brilliant, but loud...

Aussies are terrific dogs too! Well, all dogs are in my opinion, but some breeds I like better than others.  Shelties have a really sweet disposition and those eyes tell all! But yes, they are loud! [8|]

My Sheltie doesn't bark very loud, or very often - and when he does he will quiet quickly when I ask.
 
I've been hearing that if I were to bring home a second Sheltie, that they would both bark a lot more, setting each other off - much like car alarms.. LOL!
 

I honestly don't know if that is true or not. It may be. I had four at one time and they could cause quite a ruckus.  But the two I have now I have trained not to bark at certain things and they are unbelievably a lot quieter.  I think they call it "Sheltie Speak" but they have become a lot more behaved since I have been applying a lot of the techniques that my  hero, Ceasar Milan, suggests.
 
I saw a Sheltie puppy for sale recently and we went to look at him, but after seeing his parents (who were ugly) we thought best not to pay the money to get the dog. We have had Sheltie pups before where the parents were not to standard or pretty and they turned out like their parents. I kind of feel like a snob. Do you think that is always true in a breed? But if I am going to pay the outrageous money out on a Sheltie, I at least want them to look like their standard breed. If I take in a rescue Sheltie for free, I don't care what he looks like. I just want him/her to have a  home. Tell me if I am a snob or wrong.  Thanks

Hi desertrose!  Yes, I have a Cavalier (and a toy Poodle too).....I got my Cavalier last fall and he will turn one year old on June 15th!  I absolutely adore him, he is so loving and sweet-natured. 
 
Your two shelties are so pretty!  They remind me of my sister's dogs.  Right now my sister only has one Sheltie (the other one was quite old, and passed away last summer), the one she has now is a tri-color.

Forgot to mention, regarding ugly parents when you go look at puppies, or dogs just not up to the breed standard.  I don't think there is anything wrong with being concerned about that at all.  I remember when I was looking for a Poodle, and while I love ALL dogs, there were 2 dogs that I looked at (the parents) that just were not my idea of what a Poodle should look like, so I passed on those puppies.  And, I am glad that I did because I found my little Bailey shortly after that!

Thanks, Remali! Your King Charles Cavalier is a beauty!  My neice's was as well . Unfortunately he had to go to doggie heaven. But he was a great dog and extremely smart! I used to laugh at the antics that dog would do. 
 
Well, I figure if I have to pay out a lot of money for a pure bred and you know pure breds are not cheap, I am going to be picky about their looks and you can get a pretty good idea by looking at their parents. I had a horse breeder tell me I was wrong and that I should not look at it that way. Well I don't know if horses and dogs are different or not, but they sure aren't the same species! []
 
Anyway, I take in rescue Shelties and I don't care what they look like. If I hear a Sheltie needs a home.......my home is his/her home.

I agree....whether it be a horse or a dog, if I am buying a registered purebred, I sure as heck want it to meet the breed standard, and be nice-looking.  Especially when you pay a good price for the animal.  I've had horses all my life too, and most everyone I know thinks the same we way do....if we're going to be paying that kind of money, we want it all, good looks too.
 
That is so great you take in rescue dogs too, I wish I could do that.....unfortunately I live in an apartment right now, but someday I hope to have a little hobby farm.  I love all dogs, and would take any and all of them, no matter what they looked like.  But when you are looking to purchase a dog and willing to spend some money, well then to me it only makes sense to purchase the best that you can and the prettiest one too.
