Any Sheltie lovers?

Hello everyone!  What a great find this board has been!

I owned two sable and white shelties from 1979 until 1991.  Molly and Mae.  They were just the best little dogs.  I never had any trouble with the barking aspect of the breed.  The breeder that I got them from used bubble gum to tip the ears.  I had every kid in the neighborhood chewing.  It took about two to three weeks, but they tipped and stayed that way.

I just can't say enough good things about this breed and when I lost them it just broke my heart.  It has taken this long to get another dog.  I got a sweet little Cavalier from my daughter for Mother's Day.  Hopefully, when I am able to have a yard of my own again, I'll get another Sheltie.

bls4pets, my Shelties can do all those barks.  But while they used to bark at everything, including if a bird flew by, they have really cut down on the barking . I have been working on them with positive reinforcement and it has been blissful. Now I don't know what they do when I am not home! LOL

I have had 7 altogether of this breed and I just love them.  I think about getting another breed but always end up getting another Sheltie. They are so sweet, intelligent, easy to train, wants to please and comical as heck! Each has had their own personality!

hidcote94, my neice had a Cavalier once. They are beautiful dogs and that dog was smart as a whip. Sadly he died of cancer.

wolfsoul, now I have been around schipperkes.  They are characters too, but I felt those dogs barked a whole lot more than any Sheltie I had, just an observation. I have a friend now who has a schipperke and loves him.  But she had to do something about his constant barking.

Thanks. I suppose he could be Sheltie-"mini" aussie mix. So far, he only barks and roos when he's excited, like when I baby talk him or we play a little bit. And mostly he sleeps and just snuggles, so it's not a constant thing.

desertrose -- Emma is a very sweet girl, and I hope to have her for many years.  As soon as I am able (which will be a while), maybe you'll be able to give me ideas on sheltie rescue so she will be able to have a companion. thanks.

hidcote94! I would be more than happy to try and help you regarding rescue Shelties.  I live in a rural town here in Arizona and so I am in contact with two rescue Sheltie folks both in Phoenix and Tucson. But whereever you live, we can work together on trying to get you a playmate for your Cavalier! They are such beautiful and regal dogs, the Cavaliers! I believe they were dogs that belonged to royality, were they not?  I love the name Emma! Take care!

Thanks desertrose.  I used to live in AZ (14 years).  Would love to come back.  Be good to get an AZ sheltie then!
