Is this dog skinny?

yes it is a game bred dog and probably was conditioned like that for a show(adba) that is how they like them to look.We have 3 adba pits and all 3 are game bred and i would never let my dogs get that skinny. My dogs all weight pull and are in very good condition but i just wouldn't feel right getting them that skinny just to show them.

One of our hunting/cow dogs is almost impossible to keep weight on.  I would like to see a little bit more weight on that dog, but personally I think that America's obesity problem with humans is just as bad with dogs.  You can see my hunting dog's ribs, but no other bones in her body, just solid muscle.  However, she is a bay dog and has to be in top condition if she is going to catch up to and stop a hog.  She can out run all of the other hunting dogs in speed and distance.  So, back to the dog in the pic, I don't think it is malnourished, just in good condition, but probably not for the right reasons.

This same picture I believe was brought up on another forum, followed by several dogs of the same build posted by their owners. The dogs were in perfectly good health according to the owner, were not fought (which wasn't easy to disbelieve, considering they had absolutely no scars, and they were even around other dogs). Being skinny and being conditioned are very different. I don't know how much THAT dog weighs, BUT, often dogs weigh much different than they appear.
Many people think sighthounds are too skinny, but that's just a sad claim by people who don't know the breeds too well. So don't put this owner in the doghouse just yet. There are many Pits who have this build, and are very happy and healthy.

My vote would be for too skinny.  For reference I went through the entire "Working Pit Bull" book and did not find any dogs (and there are some truely athletic dogs in that book) that looked like that.

Here are other pics of that dog. He has scars on his front legs, and back hip [:(]

Well hun unfortunatly there are tons like that, go to [linkhttp://www.gamedogs.com]www.gamedogs.com[/link]

The skinny dog is the equivalent of a primed runner who is particiapting in a marathon, its not healthy to be that way year round but it is prime sporting condition. The problem isnt the dog, the problem is the reason they have the dog conditioned like that. Its like when army people go to boot camp, thjey are in the same "sporting condition" only fed foods there body will use and hardly no body fat but if you look closely that dog does have muscle

Real classy breeder https://home.comcast.net/~evolutionknls/breedings.htm But at least he took the chains off them for that

oh yea, dont get me started on that site. That is what nightmares are made of! I have no idea why but it has been up for a really long time

I was shocked and appaled the first time I saw it.  If you poke around the net long enough you can come across dog fighting chats--they use code but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what they are saying.

He may not be necessarily going into a "fighting" ring but the conformation ring.  I've seen dogs that are SKINNY at shows.  A skinny dog is one that is just starved a few days before the show so they look "trim". That dog, which I THINK is Gr. Ch. Machobuck but don't quote me, has been conditioned by a very dedicated owner to a peak condition.
I personally prefer my dogs a little thicker though...which is probably why I have never placed at shows LOL

He is Machobuck! Owned by Evolution kennels (who isnt very popular on here, from seeing some of the remarks about them in past threads)... He was conditioned for ABDA in that picture ([linkhttp://www.adba.cc/]http://www.adba.cc/[/link])

That dog is unbelievable skinny, its a pit bull not an italian greyhound! Pits are supposed to have muscle and be much more stocky and 'fat' than that!

Eh kind of, he is conditioned for a season, not like that all year round. He is like a runner right before a marathon, all foods fed are burned off and some consider this excellent shape. Sure it dosnt look great but traditionally pit bulls ribs are supposed to show, along with a well defined tuck and flank. He does have muscle on him just no body fat
