Not necessarily.  [:)]  Many breeds can have purple spots on their tongues.  I've known purebred GSD, Goldens and Newfounlands who have had them.

Agreed.  Max is (I think) a GSD/lab/? mix and he has a couple of dark spots on his tongue.  Until I realized they were permanent, I just thought he had eaten yet another erasable pen. [:)]

As I know first hand the determination of male beagles who are in the mood for love-I wouldn't doubt that some little boy beagle tagged a slow moving German shepherd female, and of course, nobody in the shepherd's family would want to discuss that adventure.  It would explain, size, color, markings, and even the ears, almost like a shepherd pup before their ears prick upwards.

She is definatly not beagle.  Her mom was a basset hound x lab no question about it that is definatly what she was.  We aren't sure about her father though.

The ears and eyes say springer or brittany spaniel to me.

Here are some more pictures taken yesterday.

Notice her purple spotted tongue now?

    She is very energetic

She is such a cutie!  If she didn't have such long hair I would suggest Coonhoud (my friend had a Coonhound x Collie and had similar markings).  A lot of Aussies do have spotted tongues (so if Daddy was an Aussie, that's where it might have come from).  But as everyone has already said the black can come from anywhere.

As for the underbite, I think it just gives your dog more character.  A friend of mine has an American Eskimo w/an underbite.  My DH calls him Beavis.  LOL

Wow it's crazy how similar they look.  If they were the same age I would think they were littermates.
i can see the brittany spaniel:)

all I kept thinking as I looked was min-pin and brittany spaniel.  The head/hear/eye placement screamed out brittany to me, but something in the face and the underbite reminded me so much of a min-pin.  It's funny to have a mystery mix dog, isn't it?  We can't figure out what our dog is either, and we don't even know what the mama was!!!!
Oh, and many dog breeds have purple/black tongues....but if the daddy was a true mix (let's say he was a min-pin, brittany, lab, chow, aussie just for kicks!) that could explain it.
